HERMITAGE MUSEUM, SAINT PETERSBURG The Hermitage Museum, founded in 1764 and housing over 400 display halls, is one of the world’s oldest, largest, and unquestionably greatest art collections, housed in stunning connected palaces. The beautiful Peacock Clock by James Cox, as well as masterpieces of painting by Leonardo Da Vinci and Rembrandt, and world-famous sculptures byAntonio Canova andMichelangelo, are among the highlights of the art collection.

Empress Catherine the Great started the museum after acquiring a series of artworks in the mid-1700s. It would later grow to a roster of three million objects. The majestic Small Hermitage, Old Hermitage, New Hermitage, Hermitage Theatre, and previous tsar- occupied Winter Palace are among the six structures that make up this vast assemblage along the Palace Embankment.
