IAPS n On Saturday 8th June, 11 boys from Year 5 and Year 6 went to the London Aquatic Centre, the 2012 Olympics venue for swimming and diving, for the IAPS National Swimming Finals. All of the boys who sawm in this gala qualified in the top 20 swimmers nationally. The following boys were involved: Felix P, Louis, Macsen, Charlie, Rori, Sam, Marcus, Gil, Ali, Ethan, Manni and the results were as follows:
• U10 medley relay – 16th place • U10 freestyle relay – 13th place • U11 medley relay – 8th place • U11 freestyle relay – 12th place
n Louis and Marcus swam individual events as well. Louis achieved two personal best times and came in 4th place in the 50 metre butterfly, narrowly missing out on a medal by 3 hundredths of a second. Marcus came 12th place in the 50 metre freestyle, a superb achievement and beating his qualifying time. ESSA n On Friday 14th and Saturday 15th June, six boys in Year 6 and Year 5 travelled up to Sheffield to swim at the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) Primary National Championships. The following boys were selected for the event: Louis, Charlie, Macsen, Rori, Sam and Marcus (who was swimming up a year group). The boys put in superb efforts and came away with a 4th in the medley relay with a time of 1:11.10, and we came 10th in the freestyle relay with a time of 1:04.17. LSSA n On Wednesday 12th June, 8 boys from Year 5 and Year 6 qualified for the LSSA Finals. This was a regional final competition that is open to every primary school in London. All of the boys who swum in this gala qualified in the top 12 for London. The following Year 6 boys were involved: Louis, Charlie, Austin, Rori, Felix, Macsen, Joe. Special mention must go to Marcus and Ali who were swimming up an age group for this event. The results were as follows: • 100 metre individual medley – Louis in 2nd place and Charlie in 6th place • 25 metre backstroke – Austin in 6th place • 50 metre backstroke – Rori in 7th place and Felix in 8th place • 50 metre breaststroke – Macsen in 5th place and Joe in 11th place • 25 metre butterfly – Ali in 3rd place • 50 metre butterfly – Louis in 1st place and breaking the record by 2.45 seconds • 50 metre freestyle – Marcus in 4th place and Charlie in 6th place.
