The Department of Surgery follows the College of Medicine ARPT guidelines as approved on April 3, 2017, with two modification specific to Surgery Department faculty members.

Letters of recommendation • For all faculty, regardless of representation (AAUP or GFT) or track, any dossier submitted for reappointment, promotion, or tenure must include a letter from the applicant’s division chief. • The letter may count as one of the three required letters.
• The letter should provide detail regarding the applicant’s strengths and weaknesses relating to the departmental missions of: 1) clinical service, 2) education, 3) scholarship, and 4) professionalism.
2. Probationary period for affiliated PhDs in the tenure track is extended from 7 years to 10 years.
