INTERMEDIATE WHEEL (ONSITE)

FIGURE SCULPTING (ONSITE)

POTTERY ON THE WHEEL (ONSITE)

This class will introduce students to the art of figure sculpting through a variety of forms including human, animal, and even imaginary. Early projects in the class will focus on details of our figures like faces and hands as we learn about basic structure and anatomy. Later projects will combine these details into full figure sculptures with poses and expressions that tell their own stories. Projects will all be guided by the instructor, but individual styles are also highly encouraged. No previous sculpting experience necessary. Code: POT 19 Instructor: Michael Klapthor Location: Sculpture Studio Maximum: 10 Fee: $315.00 Day/Time: Wednesdays, 7:00 - 9:30 PM Dates: September 14 - November 16 (10 weeks) In this hands-on workshop students learn to decorate and fire using westernized raku methods using combustible materials to create striking glaze results that vary depending on the way the flames and oxygen react to create vibrant colors and/or crackle effects. We also will do one special firing using aluminum sagger techniques for unique effects. - Raku firing is low fire, and will not be water tight. Pots should be for decorative, non-food uses. Sculptures and decorative pottery forms are best, but any bisque fired pieces will work. - Bring a meal for our thirty minute lunch break. - Bring 5-10 small to midsize pieces or three large pieces to fire. All glazes and materials will be included. - All work must be bisque fired prior to the workshop. - Handmade bisqueware will be available to purchase for students to use if they don't have enough of their own work to fire. - For safety and comfort, wear natural fibers clothing and closed toe shoes. No synthetic clothing or open toe shoes and sandals. Flame, water, and soot will likely create a dirty and smoky experience, so wear clothing that you will not mind getting dirty and possibly stained. RAKU AND SAGGER POTTERY WORKSHOP
