INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING

PAINTING WITH OILS DEMYSTIFIED

A fun approach to learning the basics of drawing, this class will focus on drawing from observation and developing creativity.

Learn to recognize an individual’s unique facial features from across the room. Our study will be based in anatomy, and we will do quick sketches in dry or water-based media. Blocking, self- portraits and half photo/half rendered drawings will help you develop the skills and confidence you need. Fear no more. Come Face It with me! Designed for both the beginner and experienced painter, in this course you will be introduced to the language and tools of painting and the use of color and composition to create realistic portraits and figures in oils. Relax and learn in a non- stressful environment from a professional artist. Returning students are always introduced to new techniques to help them move forward with their painting! This is a drawing class for beginners and the assignments given the first half of the term are based on exploring those principles and elements of design while the second half of the term focuses on putting into action what you’ve learned.. 2D COLOR THEORY

Relevant to all 2D media (drawing, painting, printmaking, photography), this class will introduce color theory and the elements and principles of art.

BEGINNING WATERCOLOR

Watercolor is a level one observational painting class. In Watercolor, students will learn color theory and application techniques and will receive weekly assignments geared towards advancing their observational skills and technical application. Students will receive compositional and conceptual liberties toward the end of the term with their final assignment as a learning evaluation.

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION THROUGH OIL PAINTING

ADVANCED DRAWING

This class is designed to guide students to find their inner artist and explore conscious and subconscious ideas – much like painters throughout history have found inspiration. The class is suitable for all levels and includes basic instruction for using oil paints as well as composition, subject matter, and concepts. Supply list online. Advanced Drawing is for student(s) who have already received Introduction to Drawing. This is more of a self-guided course where student(s) are given assignments and asked to work independently while receiving advice and/or constructive criticism. In class critiques will occur following the completion of every assignment.

SOFT, HARD AND OIL PASTELS (AGES 14 AND UP)

COLORED PENCILS (AGES 14 AND UP)

This course is designed for beginners who have never used pastels before. Using our beautiful surroundings at Callanwolde you will learn how to lay out and draw landscapes, flowers from the gorgeous garden, and still life. We will begin with demonstration and practice, experimenting with the three types of pastels while emphasizing the unique qualities of this historic medium.

Come develop your color layering skills with Colored Pencils. The class will include demonstration of techniques, lessons on basic color theory and practice! We will use the beautiful Callanwolde campus, flowers from the garden, still life, and portraiture to advance experience with Colored Pencils.
