FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE RANCH Please join us Friday, October 17 at 5:30 pm.
JAMIE T. COURTER, PH.D. Originally from Henderson, North Carolina, Jamie received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University. It was here that her passion for the beef industry began. Following graduation, she went on to obtain a master’s degree in Animal Breeding and Genetics from South Dakota State University. During her tenure there, she interacted with and learned from producers of all ages and backgrounds. Her thesis research was conducted at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, NE, working with leading geneticists to advance calculations of GE-EPDs. This knowledge and experience led to her decision to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a doctoral degree, where she worked alongside Drs. Ron Lewis, Matthew Spangler, and Temple Grandin to better quantify docility for genetic evaluations. Following graduation, Jamie spent the first five years of her career as a Product Manager and Technical Services Manager at Neogen Genomics. While different titles, both positions had the same goal: to help beef producers better understand the use case and benefits of genomic technology. This encompassed everything from interpreting EPDs to adoption of commercial genetic testing. While there, she gained invaluable knowledge of the global cattle industry, its needs, and pinch points as it pertains to technology adoption. All information and experience that will pose useful in her new role as State Beef Genetics Extension Specialist at the University of Missouri, where she started just Sept. 1st of 2023.
