Welcome!

It’s that time of year again when the temperatures start to cool, the trees start turning shades of fall colors, and Niobrara Red Angus assembles an offering of Red Angus females that are at the forefront of progress within the Red Angus breed. If you thought last year was a fun set of cows and breds to evaluate, you haven’t seen anything yet! The caliber of females from top to bottom in this year’s offering is incredible. Couple that with carrying pregnancies from some of the most influential bulls in the business, and I can’t possibly get any more excited about the opportunities that are to come. Anything Jeff and Tami Keller do, they do to the highest degree. They desired to become the best within a breed of cattle they fell in love with almost a decade ago, and with their perseverance, patience, and determination, I truly believe their herd sits among the top of the breed in North America. The passion and dedication NIO has to make progress within the Red Angus breed is unwavering. Each spring brings a new calf crop, and we have been incredibly fortunate over the past few years to see forward momentum every single time. Jake and I have worked hard to do our jobs as a Farm Manager & Marketing Manager to help keep Niobrara Red Angus headed in a positive direction. To be honest, it’s been fun as hell to watch our dedicated efforts translate into success for the Keller Family & Niobrara Red Angus itself. The first Red, Redefined Sale was held in 2020 in an online format, where a group of our best heifer calves were marketed. Since its inception, we’ve had in mind to utilize this as our production sale; an in person, live auction at the ranch in Niobrara, marketing the female seedstock of our operation. It’s been a blast recalling all of the information we’ve gathered on these cows throughout the years. There is truly something for everyone, and the level of honest, phenotypic quality in this group of Red Angus females will likely go unparalleled this fall. We would love to invite each and every one of you to the ranch on Saturday, October 11th, where we will sell this incredible offering of Red Angus cows & heifers. If you have interest in adding to your existing herd, or starting from scratch within the Red Angus business, there is truly opportunity for everyone. We’d love to help you find the right Red Angus females to match your future goals.

We Appreciate You All,

-Garrett Knebel

The Red Angus Team

Jeff & Tami Keller, Owners of Niobrara Red Angus, were born and raised in Niobrara, Nebraska, both graduating from Niobrara High. Together, they are blessed to have three incredible sons: Sam, Jack & Ben. Tami (Leader) Keller’s family made their living as Angus breeders in the area, originating with her grandfather, John Leader. Aspiring to have a herd of their own, they chose Red Angus cattle and enjoy the opportunity Niobrara Red Angus gives their sons to be more involved in agriculture.

Jacob Bathke, Ranch Manager, resides and oversees Niobrara Red Angus with his wife, Madison, and their very recent new addition, Steely Joe Bathke. He manages and oversees the daily operations of the ranch and is responsible for the wellbeing of the cattle. Jacob graduated college with a degree in agronomy, but he couldn’t leave his passion for cattle behind. Jacob is grateful for the opportunity to work with the Keller Family and their high-quality cattle. Even though most of his days are spent with cattle, he says what he loves most about his job are the people. He would also like to acknowledge and thank his family and friends who help him throughout the year. Meg Penrod, Office Manager, is a lifelong resident of Lincoln, Nebraska. Meg received her BFA from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and spent 12 years working in interior design. In 2019, Meg and her husband, Tanner, adopted their oldest daughter, Sloan, and two years later, they had a welcomed surprise when their second daughter Scarlett came along! Meg has spent the last several years at home raising their girls, but her love for working with people and passion for animals drew her to work for Niobrara Red Angus. Garrett Knebel, Marketing Manager, resides in Bozeman, MT. There he owns and operates Harmony Hill, a progressive Red Angus operation focused on seedstock for the commercial cow-calf operator. With a degree from Oklahoma State University, Garrett’s main responsibilities for Niobrara Red Angus include marketing, consulting, breeding, and seedstock selection. In his spare time, he travels the country visiting with fellow Red Angus breeders and judging livestock shows. Doug Leader grew up on the family farm in Niobrara, Nebraska. After college, Doug enlisted into the Army National Guard. While there, he worked full time for Nebraska Army & Air National Guard specializing in accounting. Since then, Doug entered the carpet cleaning industry, starting his own business called Pinnacle Carpet Care. After building the business in Lincoln, he expanded into Omaha and has since been running those businesses for the past 26 years. Along with his son, Zach, Doug has been operating cattle and farming with his with his father, Allen Leader, on the family farm for the past 20 years. Doug wears a variety of hats for Niobrara Red Angus, including farming, making hay, accounting, and taking the lead on delivering NIO’s cattle across the North American continent.

of our cows The history In the simplest way, our goal is to produce the most problem free, profitable, productive Red Angus seedstock available today to promote longevity and elevate our customer’s product to the top of the marketplace. After decades of the most thoughtful and strategic genetic acquisitions, initially setting the paper aside and sorting from the phenotypic strengths that promote in-herd longevity, Niobrara Red Angus has most recently been able to incorporate the breed’s most genotypically progressive options to generate the most well-rounded product the breed has today. From the beginning, NIO spent considerable due diligence identifying and selecting for the most phenotypically relevant Red Angus females that were available anywhere. Relying heavily on Garrett Knebel’s experience and eye, we chose to isolate and breed from a much stouter, more robust Red Angus female than was commonplace in the breed in the United States. In doing so, that meant intentionally setting the paper or EPDs aside, to solidify the type and kind of female we wanted at the foundation of our business. Certainly unpopular, we paid little attention to their ranking within the Red Angus Association of America’s database. Most of our cow herd originated from genetics found in Canada. With these Canadian cattle having no history of production or relation to other cattle in the U.S. database, we had to start from square one. And in the RAAA database, that means starting at the bottom. Overtime and with patience from Jeff & Tami Keller, we’ve been able to watch how these cows and their progeny have begun to “climb the hypothetical ladder” in the database and are now much closer to reading comparatively accurate to the breed. Specifically, our base of cows has improved substantially in their Herd-Builder Index, having time and production now in their favor. With an extremely solid, tight base of Red Angus cows now working for Niobrara Red Angus, the results we’re seeing are incredibly rewarding. We know our bulls are being produced from some of the most bulletproof, maternal, long-lasting cows in the breed. Now, we’ve begun incorporating some of the freshest genotypic, paternal leaders, with considerable mindfulness to the “bottom-side” of the bulls we identify to use. That said, we still believe it’s valuable to utilize new, breed-leading genetics from North of the border. However, it’s imperative our customers understand these cattle are starting from square one on paper. You’d be made to believe these cattle are some cow-killing, nanny-goat performing critters with the marbling of a Belgian Blue. But the comparative, association data is not accurate. Our progeny from these foreign, imported cattle have no history of production in the U.S. database, and as stated, they’re forced to start from scratch. That explained, we know we’re on the right track. Our Red Angus females have an undeniable advantage, conformationally, of strength, density, stoutness and foot quality. Inevitably, our customers are seeing that in the offspring sired by Niobrara Red Angus bulls. EPDs are only as useful as the accuracies behind them. Accuracies are increased by progeny recorded. That’s important to understand. Equally as important a tool in the toolbox, is the actual data gathered. Birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, IMF and REA scans, calving intervals, etc. These are all critically important to evaluate and compare. Yet, true genetic progress requires breeding beyond the numbers most convenient for analyzing and visually selecting for or culling based on real-world production traits. Feet, udders, fertility, and conformation; we believe that should be at the foundation of cattle selection. In closing, we’re proud of our cattle. With the many herd visits Garrett Knebel is able perform on an annual basis, we aren’t “barn blind”. We put our cattle up against any, regardless of breed. That said, the cattle may never be Top 1% for a certain trait on paper. But if the cattle prove to have longevity and sire calves that have demand, we know we are headed in the right direction.

Each year, I feel it’s imperative for us to start off the Female Sale in an exciting way. It’s important for me to offer something that’s unique and proven, that hurts to let go of. A cow that embodies the type and kind of cattle that NIO strives to produce, and that will provide a sure-fire rate of return for whomever takes the chance and owns her. This year, we offer the donor cow who produced the Highest Selling Bull ever created from the Niobrara Red Angus program. Like most, we waited on Six Mile Kassie 535F to prove herself to the point she warranted replication in volume. Her story began back in 2018, while attending the Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, Saskatchewan. Six Mile Ranch was having their Genetic Focus sale in the stalls that year.

Studying the offering with a fine-toothed comb, I landed on the 6-month-old heifer calf, 535F. With a completely outcross pedigree from the Peak Dot Unanimous bull and a dominant Bar-E-L cow backing her, 535F was a deep, dark red, big bodied, very sound structured young heifer that I believed was hard to put a hole in. Fast forward a couple years, bred to Nova, she ends up raising the phenotypic phenom named NIO Mojave 2029. That year, prior to Hollywood, he was the Highest Selling Red Angus

Bull in history, with a hammer price of $210,000. Sold to Sandridge Land & Cattle and Six Mile Ranch, both outfits recently sold Mojave’s first sons in their own respective bull sales. Having achieved that enormous accomplishment, we knew we had to put 535F into the flush program. At the time, she was bred back with her second bull calf, NIO Sabotage 3202,

which sold as a crowd favorite that next year in 2024. Averaging 8 frozen embryos on 4 conventional flushes, she did a fine job for us while in ET. With her first ET heifers born in 2024, we end up offering one of them here in the 2025 Red Redefined sale as Lot 33. If you’re looking for an outcross Red Angus female, proven with a herd leading production record, that’s in the prime of her life and just getting started… Kassie 535F or “Mojave’s Mom” might just be it.

Sells Open & Ready to Flush. Offering 50% Embryo Interest. Possession Negotiable.

I’ve never wanted to put random emojis into a footnote so badly. Haha What on earth was Jake thinking here?! We always recall the calf crop from 2020 as being one of the best ever produced at NIO, and it was these U6 Alana 13X daughters that anchored that entire set of ETs. In all seriousness, I’m possessive about these 13X animals. Some of the all-around best beef cows I’ve ever witnessed in my life. They’re not only jaw-droppingly beautiful in person, but they flat out GENERATE. Worth noting, this cow can get a little hot and snorty sometimes when she’s all by herself. But, like a good-lookin’ woman, it may be worth a bruise every now and then. (Again, emojis. Crying laughing. Stop it! …I’m joking!! It’s a joke…) Wise cracks aside, this one makes the long days worth it. With both bulls having gone through past bull sales, and her only daughter retained in herd, she hasn’t missed yet. Carrying a pregnancy by Ranch Hand, I don’t even want to know how good this calf might be. In the prime of her life, here’s a cow that should never be let off the ranch. SANDRIDGE MIA 4505 Granddaughter of Lot 3

The opportunity awaits to grab ahold one of my all-time favorite cows in the Niobrara Red Angus program! These days, you can’t remember all of them. And it takes a pretty special animal to leave an imprint in my mind. That said, NIO Mia 0073 is one of those animals; 740C’s shining achievement. In the years of breeding John Wick to literally everything, 740C gave us 0073. Acquired through the Red Redefined Sale, she found her way South to a partnership between Sandridge Land & Cattle & The Smith Family of Shiner, Texas. Having already produced the 2025 Reserve Grand Champion Female at the Fort Worth Stock Show, the phenotypic quality is strong in this cow family. If you’re hunting a donor cow that can generate fast revenue, 740C is your girl. Confirmed safe with a Ranch Hand inside, I’d argue, this may just be the best mating this cow’s seen yet. Due April 15th, 2026 to STRA Ranch Hand 2010.

Somebody… Anybody… get this thing to the flush facility! NIO Split Rock D1 first arrived to Niobrara Red Angus after the monumental dispersal of Wildcat Creek Ranch. She was the pregnancy inside of Van Wye Split Rock 35X, who made her way to NIO that day with two other genetic giants… 2085Z & 107X. Honestly, I knew this cow was good. But after I assembled her progeny photos, I didn’t realize how good! Some of my own personal favorite bulls in past bull sales have been raised by this cow. Sired by Power Eye, you can see the power and muscle shape she transmits into her offspring. With top notch foot quality and still a very attractive udder, cows like this, that stand the test of time, should be replicated in volume when building a cowherd, regardless of your production goals. Carrying a calf by Ranch Hand, I’d be willing to put money on a complete ROI in year one. Due April 10th, 2026 to STRA Ranch Hand 2010.

Cows like this make it all worth doing. NIO Tarmily 0019 has been a favorite of many that have toured the NIO cow herd. And now, you have the opportunity to add this female to your program at home. When I think about cows that are versatile, that could be mated in any direction and achieve success, that’s when you know you’ve got something special. With all 3 indexes in the top percentiles of the breed, she’s proven to stand the test of time. Sired by one of our early stars in the Niobrara program, 9 Mile Darkhorse 8718, I’ll never forget finding this bull with Josh Dykes & Seth Leachman out in Washington. From the famous cow herd of Glen & Karen Raisland, Darkhorse not only offered calving ease for our program, but did it while crushing the curve. His progeny flat out grew. The Tarmily cow family on the bottom side goes back to an early donor cow, 016A, who has countless daughters remaining in the NIO cow herd. With a proven track record, and a “knock your socks off” phenotype, bag, and foot, I can say with confidence that this is one of the most valuable Red Angus females available anywhere this year. Bred to Ranch Hand, whose semen is not for sale, you may just end up with her best calf yet. Due March 29th, 2026 to STRA Ranch Hand 2010.

Moderate, maternal, sound structured and dense, she’s as as any cow in the offering. Don’t let a cow as proven as this slip by you! Her pedigree, data set, and phenotype are so versatile, you can literally take her in whatever direction you want to. Calves early to a Feddes Blockana C31 son, and get to flushing folks! Due December 30th, 2025 to NIO Laredo 4245.

The final Ranch Hand daughter cataloged, and we chose to round them out in a strong fashion. NIO Syringa 4041 checks so many boxes. Stemming from the U2 Syringa 71A donor cow, her mother, U2 Syringa 20F was a powerful bred heifer when we got her, and she’s proven her worth in a big way. Every calf she has is high quality and finds its way into our sales. Study this girl on paper, and the sky is truly the limit.

Huge indexes, with many traits in the Top 1% of the breed, including a ridiculous 28 STAY and Top 4% Marb. Moreso, the fertility in these Ranch Hands is real and a female like this will last a long time. If you’re looking for a donor cow, you may have just found her. Calves early. Start to flushing. Six Mile Marta 140E has proven herself over the years to be atop the Niobrara herd. Jake & I watched her put some phenomenal females into the program and chose to start flushing her a couple years ago. Boy, are we glad we did. NIO Marta 3238 will get your blood pumping. Sincerely, I believe this may be one of the best John Wick daughters to ever be born into the program. She is so feminine and attractive about her head and neck. She’s enormous bodied, big and powerful, and steps to the surface on some of the biggest bones you’ve ever seen. She’s great footed, udders run correct in the Marta’s, and that leaves us with very little to be desired. If you’re looking for a donor cow, NIO Marta 3238 fits the bill. She calves early, with plenty of time to do IVF before spring transfers. Due December 28th, 2025 to LSF SRR Diversified 1143J.

We don’t plan to let many of these 140E’s go, but here’s one of the best in NIO Marta 4233. Stunning in her design, big, big bodied, incredibly elegant with tons of presence, and she stomps around on a burly structural built that we’ve come to expect from 140E. Sired by Trojan, she’s working with some extras in her genetic profile, with Top 7% WW, Top 9% YW, and multiple other carcass traits in the Top 10% of the breed. This heifer should prove to have some additional size and scale based on her parents’ phenotype, and at a time where we are having to produce more with less, her kind will prove to be in vogue over the coming years. The flush of the $110,000 U2 Hidee Ho 459D, mother of U2 Dominion, to C-T Reputation 0094 may go down as the best flush ever completed at Niobrara Red Angus. Not only did Hidee Ho flush over 20 to Reputation, as she did consistently. But the conception rate on them was phenomenal. We registered 25 ET progeny from Hidee Ho in 2024. We sold 6 full brothers to these heifers in the 2025 NIO Bull Sale, and they were truly some of my favorites. She has absolutely left an enormous imprint on the Niobrara Red Angus program.

C-T REPUTATION 0094 Sire of Lots 27 - 30

These 4 flush sisters are smoking good. I mean damn good. Dark red, highly attractive, bold ribbed, powerfully dense, and what I personally find so appealing is their honest Angus character, witnessed in their head. Good cattle know they’re good, and the presence these sisters have is undeniable. I don’t care what your production goals are, this flush of sisters are going to leave their mark on the Red Angus breed.
