e Indicrats & Rip Van Dankle - Following a disastrous debate performance in which the candidate believed himself to be in his bathtub, incumbent Rip Van Dankle has been on shaky
It’s political convention season in CannaTown, and the chodes have come to roost! Just as in old times, the two major competing political parties in the town, Indicrats and Sativaclans, will vie for the
position of Head Gardener in the

the Mayor remarked during a press confer- ence. “It’s imperative we pick the right person.” However, this year presents a puzzle of an election, given the two parties are working with the most historically-controversial picks they have ever put forward. Let's look at the conventions going on and the upward battles both candidates, and their supporters, face.
He responds to jabs with dull, lifeless eyes that seem to infer something is going on inside, but only on a level just above braindead. e convention agenda has shi ed from policy, to merely trying to wake the candidate, who has been moved to a bed from the couch. He was high, and then got higher, woke up momentarily, and then was passed, like, a huge steamroller with ounce-wide bowl, and he went absolutely sideways. For a while he was just half-eyed. But every snore was a reminder that he was higher than the strato- sphere and sleeping just as deep. A steady stream of speakers has been shout- ing at Van Dankle from the stage for several hours. Attendees have tried to revive him with a dancing monkey, and also threw him o the roof in a lawn chair. Electroshock has not been ruled out. Some are considering a Weekend from Bernies ruse, or some type of Being John Malkovich puppetry, in order to get past election day. But critics warn it’s too little too

you’ve walked into that familiar bar in Smalltown, USA. Nodding in recogni- tion as you enter, by the time one has ended, you’ve embraced it for its own existence and may want to sing along next time. Fantastic. Cat.
plies to the truly, truly improbable announce- ment of a band reforming (also) 24 years a er their demise. But why say in three words when two will do: Holy shit. Or four: Soul Coughing is back! e thought of this happening never, ever, ever, entered my mind, much like the band members themselves. Lead singer and guitarist Mike Doughty, on the shortlist of my favorite vocalists, said as much: " e guys in Soul Coughing hated me." Which seems accurate. Apparently, the (brilliant) bass player saw a question posted on Facebook, "Is there ever going to be a Soul Coughing reunion?" and responded with (the also bril- liant) "Not unless one of us dies." at one titled his 2012 memoir e Book of Drugs and freely admits "I loved drugs, I loved them." So yeah, that helps explain...some things. A er three records in four years over an eight-year existence, it wasn't exactly internally going well for the self-described "deep slacker jazz" quartet around the turn century. While Doughty has been slowly incorporat- ing more Soul Coughing material into his solo work, including a 2019 tour in which he played their entire debut, followed by the Ghost of Vroom e orts that were basically Soul Coughing without the other band mem- bers, it's still staggering to hear this news. It may never amount to anything more than the upcoming 17 shows, but even if that's it, knowing how excited the man largely re-

Before summer began, Shannon and her Clams returned with e Moon Is In e Wrong Place. e formula remains the same, with Dan Au- erbach returning as producer, dialing in
the throwback sound behind Shaw's beautifully powerful voice, and the Oakland out t drop another set that once again is both 60s retro and fresh. e di erence here is that LP num- ber seven o en takes on a more emotional tone compared to much of their previous work, and understandably so. e band wrote e Moon Is In e Wrong Place a er Shaw's ancé died in a car crash just a few months before their wedding. While that lends a weight to many of the lyrics, and a somber mood to a number of tunes, Shannon & the Clams' MO of garage rock/R&B/soul keeps things upbeat through- out. Bonus points for a great album title.

Recipes from Cousin D Pecan-Ricotta Egg Rolls with Glaze Today we're lling egg roll wraps (store- bought, easy) with a unique mix of ricotta, candied pecans and cranberries. Plus, glaze ! Hot damn! is will make the evening news. Filling Ingredients 2 8oz cream cheese bricks so ened. 1 30oz package full fat ricotta. 1 can sweetened condensed milk 3 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 cup infused honey (dose for 40-60 count) Mix ingredients together, adding nuts and Craisins last. Refrigerate for a little while to chill and thicken to a cannoli lling texture. Wet the edges of each egg roll wrap ( lls 40-60). Use a heaping spoonful, leaving room at edges to fold in and wrap. Freeze before frying on medium high in canola oil 60 seconds, until golden. Pull out and imme- diately roll in a mix of cinnamon and sugar. 4oz chopped pecans, candied prior 6oz bag dried cranberries, chopped
Glazed Dip Ingredients 15oz jar apricot preserves
1/3 cup water 1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup citris vodka or similar (or water) 1/3 cup lime juice (lemon also works) Mix and heat ingredients over medium low heat until well incorporated and smooth texture. Serve warm to dip, or allow to cool. is also works with wonton wraps! I couldn't nd wonton wraps myself but cut the egg rolls into mini wraps. Place wraps in a mini mun tin, gently press down with a shot glass to create your cup. Fill with the mixture, bake about 15 minutes at 350° to crisp the edges. Top with the apricot glaze and allow to cool again (the sauce will sit as a jelly-like layer atop the cream cheese layer). at said, wonton versions are a little more like cheesecakes, while the egg rolls are so inside, the texture of the candied pecans and Craisins. But the best thing about freezing the egg rolls is that you can just pull a few out at a time (which might be good to pre- vent overeating this addictive snack)!
