This devel- oper, which includes a high molecular weight surfactant and water, is said to enhance printing reproducibility and minimize dispersion issues during repeated use, alongside a specific manufacturing method for the printing plates. The granted patent US12044972B2 outlines a method for manufacturing flexog- raphic printing plates that involves several key steps: an exposure step where a photosensitive layer in a flexographic printing plate precursor is imagewise exposed, followed by a development step using an aqueous developer. This developer contains a surfactant with a molecu- lar weight of 1000 or more and water, which aids in forming distinct non-image and image areas on the plate. After development, a rinsing step is performed to wash the non-image and image areas with water, ensuring clari- ty and precision in the final product. The claims further specify that the surfactant can be an anionic type and should be present in a concentration ranging from 0.005 percent to 5 percent by mass. Addi- tionally, the aqueous developer may include components such as alkali metal carbonates or hydroxides to enhance its effectiveness. The patent also details specific structural formulas for the surfactant, indicating a focus on polymers with particular repeating units.
