Rural Route 5 Farm - Production Sale [3/16/26]

RURAL ROUTE 5 FARM SECOND ANNUAL PRODUCTION SALE

We are excited to be presenting the Second Annual Production Sale for Rural Route 5 Farm!

We are in the midst of our transition to moving our herd to calve only in April – May and so far, this decision has been incredible, to say the least. While we missed having fall and winter calves born on the farm, we were able to spend more time in the bleachers watching our kid’s basketball games and use some of the ‘free time’ to check some items off the never-ending to-do list. It’s also been better on the cow herd and calf health as we aren’t managing young calves through arctic cold spells and we were able to pair off right to grass last spring. The format for the sale is the same as last year, online only through DV Auction. Even though the sale is online we welcome your visit to the farm to sort through the bulls and heifers. Give us a call anytime if you are going to be in the area as we’d be happy to show you the cow herd too. This is our last offering of fall and winter born bulls and we have dug deep in the replacement pens to offer bred and open heifers. We are really excited about some of these females and we would have been happy to have kept them, but we think they’ll do well in your front pasture as well. A couple of the bulls are out of a group of high-end females we purchased from Wilkinson Simmentals in ND, and their dams are some of the reason we purchased the cows. The bulls for next year’s sale were born last Spring; we are looking forward to offering 22 month old bulls next year. At RR5 we focus on phenotypically correct cattle, with performance and strong maternal traits. We utilize ET and AI, but we also value natural service and in doing so have been able to keep a 60-day calving window. Docility is important to our operation, we want cattle our kids can be around, are workable through the chute and respectful of single strand of electrified poly wire to facilitate rotational grazing. We’ve emphasized “letting the cows be cows” in our management and we feel this results in stock that will be able to perform in any environment. We value the relationships that being in the cattle business has brought to our lives; we have tremendous landlords that allow us to use their land for crops and pasture and appreciate those that have purchased cattle and become part of the RR5 family. Thank you for trusting us and bringing RR5 genetics to your herds.

We know investing in genetics is an important decision, please let us know if we can help in any way.
