OUR BIBLE INSTITUTE l§ IN HUNAN PROVINCE, CHINA DR . FRAN K A . KELLER, Superintendent
as she had made such splendid progress in school and gave promise of being a useful worker for Christ. After thinking it over carefully and prayerfully, we told her that if - her brother could help her with her other expenses, we would give her some work in the school which would cover her board. She was very happy and started on another year of school life. But about six weeks ago her brother died and she was left without any money for clothing or incidental expenses and became very anxious and worried, until one day when she heard an address by one of the missionaries on Matt. 6: 30-32 “ Be not therefore anxious, say ing, what shall we eat? or what shall we drink, or wherewithal shall we be clothed? . . . But seek ye first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” After the meeting she went into her room and kneeling down she said, “ Dear Lord, I will seek Thy kingdom and Thy righteousness. I do- not pray for supplies for my physical needs but I do pray that Thou wilt use me in Thy service.” As she arose from her knees a great peace filled her heart and since then she has gone on trusting in the Lord, “ dwelling with the King for His work.” Just about the same time she Was praying this prayer in China, way over in America a young man was writing a letter to us. In it he said, “ Some time ago Brother Horton gave a lecture on your work in China with a chart show ing that you could put a student through your school in Changsha for $40.00 and p.ut a man in the field for a year for $80.00. I told the Lord that if He would give me a cheaper place to live I would try by His grace to put a man or woman through your school. He immediately answered this prayer and gave me the place I asked for, so I am enclosing $40.00. If it is possible, would you put a woman through your school, one that could go as a Bible Woman or Missionary to reach the women and children, but of course, if you think a man is the most needful, get a man.” As we read this letter, our heart»
The K in g’s Business h as,not before had the pleasure of* giving to its readers any thing from the , pen of Mrs. Keller, the devoted and capable w ife of Dr. Frank A. Keller. This month, however, a real treat is in store fo r them in the follow ing beautiful" and inspiring incident which Mrs. Keller has sent us, show ing how God supplies the needs of H is believing children. “ They dwelt with the King for His work.” H N the fourth chapter of 1st Chronicles, among a long list of names, we have this beauti ful verse, and a little inci dent in connection with the Women’s Department of the Bible In stitute here has called it to mind afresh. Two years ago a young woman twenty-seven years of age applied to our school. She was not able to read or write, but she had heard the Gospel, had believed it and was seeking in every way to follow Jesus Christ, but she felt her lack lof education and her greater lack in not being able to read the Bible for herself. She had a husband but he was a lazy, worthless man who had done nothing toward her support for a long time; in fact she did not even know where he was, so she had been obliged to go out to work for her living and by careful economy had managed to save enough money to pay her expenses for a year in the Bible School. We took her into our preparatory department and she did splendidly, but at the end of the year her money was ail used up, so she felt that she must again: go out to work. She tried to get a position here in Changsha, but without success. Then she was offered a position in a weaving factory in Shanghai at a very good salary. Her brother, however, greatly objected to her going so car from home (Shanghai being five days’ journey from Changsha) and promised to help her a little if she would remain here, but as he himself had a family, he was not able to do much.. We also advised her not to go to Shanghai, as the temptations for young women in the Shanghai factories are very great. Moreover we were loathe to see her go
