had to go to their work before we had time to bring this man to the Lord. There was one man that had seen us at a distance. He walked over to shake hands and asked what kind of men we were finding ,on the ships. We told him that we were finding some mighty fine men, but that they needed the Word of God worse than any we had ever seen. Another time, we went below into a little room on one of the ships and led four young men to the Lord there. Later it was our privilege to have two of these young men at the Fishermen’s Club meeting. They said it was the best thing they ever attended and went away rejoicing. Friends, our experience is wonderful. It is a great privilege for which we thank God. Pray for the work. Prayer is what counts, and nothing else but prayer. A friend said, “ Some of them come so quickly, they may not be true.” We answered that it was the Holy Spirit that did the work, not we. If a thousand men were led to Christ it wouldn’t be because of our cunning talk, or wisdom or power, but the Holy Spirit; it’s God that works, and all that we need to do is to bring the Word. This Gospel of John is a wonderful worker. Splendidly located in the heart o f the business district, a center for large Bible classes, evangelistic services and personal soul-saving work. H HE work in Pasadena is mak ing rapid strides forward these days. The old quarters on Colorado Street have been out grown, and we have taken a place at 65 North Raymond Avenue, about a block from the old location, providing much more commodious rooms for all departments of the work. The audiences are increasing in num bers at all the services. Many people are being helped spirit ually and some have been reclaimed from Christian Science, Theosophy and other “ isms” equally deadly in their influence upon the spiritual lives of their victims, and still others have brought their cares and burdens and found rest and cheer in the Lord. HIS work is a hard work,— hard because the seamen do not want to hear you talk re ligion, but when we realize that we are meeting them with the Word of God, we fear nothing; ab solutely nothing. We must work quickly and the hard est part of it all is that we are never welcome. There is not once in a thou sand times that a man is willing to hear the Word of God, but we were touched this last month by the' power of the prayers of our friends and the hunger of the people for the Word of God. Never have we been so stirred as when we have seen men—men that are so hard to reach— transformed by God in a minute’s time and brought right down to acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ. It has been our privilege to- visit a large number of ships during the last six weeks, and we have had many experiences in that time, but will tell you of but one instance. On a Steel Exporter , The ship visited was a large steel exporter. We went to the Chief Steward’s room, presented him with a copy of The King’s Business and asked, “ Are you a Christian?” He said, “ I am a Christian, but there is the First En gineer; he doesn’t believe in hell, devil, God or anything.” So we went over to him. He was a bright, handsome young man. We presented a Gospel to him. He said, “ Oh! I dont believe that.” “Well now,” ; we said, “ maybe you do believe and maybe you don’t believe. First, tell me what you mean by be lieving. What is believing anyway? Isn’t believing taking a man at his word? When you perceive anything, you know it. It has become knowledge; it is not mere believing. Believing is this — I tell you to come home with me and I will give you a hundred dollars. You take me at my word and I give it to you, and I repeat the gift for thirty days. You have confidence in me be cause I have kept my word. Did you ever take God at His Word?” He said, “ Come over to the First Officer,” so we went to the First Officer’s room. He was a Frenchman and a very ungodly one. They thought he was going to floor us, but in five minutes we had them both interested and they forgot all about their lunch. That was doing wonderfully well— getting them so in terested in the Lord Jesus Christ that they forgot their lunch. However, they
