Thought, New Theology, Socialism, Christian Evolution, Christian Science, the world growing better, Church con quering the world— are all hitched, on to the same feed pipe and will do to start the engine preparatory to a full head of steam and a full load of in fidelity. “ Respectfully submitted, H. S. EDWARDS.” HOW TO READ THE BIBLE The soul of the Bible can never be got at without Christian experience and prayer. You must get to that-close and direct contact with God in which the Bible writers stood, before you can un derstand their words. You need to know the profound simplicity of Christ and constantly to recur to it, in order to place yourself at the Bible point of view. There is no commentary on the Bible like Christian struggle, Christian experience, Christian prayer. That alone puts you in the Bible air and teaches you the true Bible tongue. The Bible will become a living Book to those who have a knowledge of the living God. The hard and literal and unhistoric mind is not Christian, and it i s .that mind which is the source of so many difficul ties about religion and the Bible. Search the Scriptures, but let them at least be Scriptures to you first. Let them be sacraments, not mere docu ments. The first eyes to turn on the Bible are those eyes behind the eyes— the eyesight of the soul. The Book will not speak its own true tongue to you till you begin to inquire of it about its own spirit and soul.—Y*. T. Forsyth, D. rulers appoint but the rank and file business men accustomed to the use of the mental scales— experts in weigh ing motives and results, trained men and women in action and practice, these far outreach the preacher or bishop. Note Du Bose on Pre and Post Millennialism. Those who believe it are heretics. All this froth and spume about the ‘church conquering the world,’ ‘the world getting better’ are all of a class with Postmil- lenialism, New Theology, Socialism, New Thought, Christian Science, Higher Criticism, differing only in degree and not in essence. “ The sooner people get wise to this the better. Take Monzon—-brilliant, re sourceful, ambitious and somewhat un scrupulous, or he would leave the church and position he rejects in faith and dogma. Du Bose also-—tempera mental, inexact, talkative, wordy. It is supposed that the next General Con ference will elect new bishops as several men would like the job. Well, a few more Monzons or DuBoses and the trick would be turned, and our M. E. South be tied up to a row over the inerrancy of the Scriptures. The big bosses simply refuse to appoint true men. These love the laymen—his pocketbook at least. Now for the worst of all, for Rome sees her chance and is organizing K. C.’s 80,- 000 strong, sending out lecturers show ing how she loves the Bible. Witness a Prof. Meyers lecturing at Willows this week on the Bible, stating that the Church loves the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. “ Thus Rome hopes to profit by the schisms and differences of Protestant ism. My training and habits of thought lead me to estimate the straws that show the direction of the winds and there be many eddies and slight dis turbances that Satan is stirring up as starters. If people stand this, then for a fuller throttle—more steam to the Unitarian engine. To repeat — New
