sell him a new edition of the Bible, “ full morocco, annotated,” etc. Before the agent was through with his description of the merits of the new volume Mar shall interrupted him to ask who the author was. “W-h-hy, this is the Bible,” explained the agent. “ I am fully aware of that,” answered Marshall, in full soberness, “ but, I ask again, who is the author?” Again the salesman explained that he was offering the Bible. Again Marshall demanded the name of the author, and the demand and the explanation were repeated in varying forms again and again. Finally the- man of the books gathered up his samples, retreated to the door, and then, with one hand on the knob, turned around and shouted: “ You pin-headed fool, it’s the Bible.” ■¿¡4. m COOKING EGGS ON ICE We note where an entertainer recently cooked an egg on a chunk of ice without the assistance of fire. That is very inter esting, for by the same process, no doubt, a revival of religion might be kindled in this generation on the foun dations laid by much of the scholarly preaching of the day. When you save a soul by the preaching of evolution, you have matched the gentleman who cooks his egg by placing it on a frozen lake. A preacher who builds up his church while he denies the miracles and questions the inspiration of the Bible could fry an egg at the North Pole, without even a match in his pocket.— Rev. Bob Shuler. miah and Baruch for writing the book, a part of the Bible, and sent his ser vants to take them, but God hid them from him. Name some of the ways we abuse our Bibles, by neglecting to read them, forgetting them, and by not doing the things God has asked us to do. We love Jesus, and we want to show our love, by doing the things He asks us to do in His book, the Bible. Prayer. SCIENTIFIC SCRIPTURES The science of Jesus Christ is the most excellent of sciences. Let no one turn away from the Bible because it is not a book of learning and wisdom. It is. Would ye know astronomy? It is here: it tells you of the Sun of Right eousness and the Star of Bethlehem. Would you know botany? It is here: it tells you of the plants of renown— the Lily of the Valley and the Rose of Sharon. Would you know geology and mineralogy? You shall learn it here: Yor you may read of the Rock of Ages, and the White Stone with the name en graven thereon, which no man know- eth saving he that receiveth it. Would you study history? 'Here is the most ancient of all the records of the history of the human race. Whatever your science is, come and bend over this book: your science is here. Come and drink ou t.of this fair fount of knowl edge and wisdom, and ye shall find yourselves made wise unto salvation.— Sel. WHO IS THE AUTHOR? The following story told about for mer Vice-President Marshall, goes to show that there are many people who carry a Bible in the hand, but have no thought of where its contents origin ated, nor of the vital importance of its message. Mr. Marshall, when still a struggling lawyer in Indiana, was sit- ~ting in his little office when a genial book agent entered and undertook to
