Farewell and best wishes to longtime faculty and staff members who have made a lasting impression on SHA students and the entire community.
Jeanne Peretta , a former Assistant to the Upper School Director, announced her retirement after 30 years at Sacred Heart and caring for hundreds of Upper School students. Jeanne worked under three Heads of School and multiple Directors and greeted numerous new faculty members and students each August. She
Elizabeth “Beth” Porter ’78 retired in June 2023 after 40 years at Sacred Heart Academy. Much of Beth's career was as a Lower School Grade 3 teacher; she also served as the Director of Lower School. Beth’s Sacred Heart roots run in students presenting their in-depth medical research to a panel of Main Line Health professionals at the Annenberg Symposium each spring. “We wish Joanne much success in her new venture at Penn,” said Meg Tredinnick, US Science Department Chair, “but will miss her greatly here at SHA. And as my fellow Dooley faculty will attest to, our lunches will not be the same!” Sandy McGrory , Educational Technology Specialist,
also served as the assistant coach for varsity softball for 18 years and was the co-head varsity basketball coach alongside Zach Shuler for years. Jeanne’s dedication in the 2001 Yearbook reads: “No amount of words can describe how much she means to our class and how much we respect her. You have truly shown us the ‘meaning of heart’.” Jeanne plans to spend more time helping with her husband's business, with family, and at her favorite place, the Delaware shore! At this year’s commencement ceremony, she concluded the final prayer with: “Thanks for the memories and always in my heart.” Jeanne remains in the hearts of so many!
Joanne Doughtery , a highly regarded Upper School Biology Teacher, departed for a new adventure this spring after 17 years of outstanding service. During her tenure, Joanne taught Grade 9 Biology, Biology II, Anatomy and Physiology, as well as implemented AP Biology into the US Science course offerings.
retired in March following nearly 17 years of service at SHA. Over the years, Sandy’s responsibilities included myriad aspects of SHA technology including infrastructure, systems, equipment, and user needs. Sandy used her voice and expertise to collaboratively advance the state of
technology at SHA, including upgrading Apple's new Volume Purchase Program and the Mobile Device Management system; migrating from Microsoft to Google Workspace; establishing a system to enhance the food service checkout experience; using grant funding to provide technology for the staff, students, and classrooms; and shepherding the shift to a cloud- based enterprise security system that helps keep SHA's campus safer and more secure. It is fair to say that Sandy’s contributions moved SHA into the modern
Joanne's enthusiasm for her subject and her students was infectious! She was known for her organizational skills, dedication to her "freshies”, and willingness to jump into any SHA event, including dodgeball at Congé! In addition to teaching, Joanne served as the Grade 12 Dean and moderated a number of clubs, the most notable being Girls in Medicine, which culminated
