The Follow-Through
yy fte r you have read the en tire Gospel of John (see page 11) you m ay want to go over the follow ing comments. It is important that you read all of John first, however. The purpose o f these com ments is to point out certain verses that can be of genuine help to the serious seeker. W e believe it is both unwise and dangerous for any of us to accept facts that shape our lives without making a firsthand study o f these facts. W e suggest you first read the background and introduction statements on pages 9 and 10 of this issue and then go right on to a complete reading of the Gospel. A llow yourself about two hours. Then a day or two later do the sec ond reading, this time with pen cil and paper. W rite down questions you have. W rite down portions that hold important truth for you. A fter you have done this reread the comments in this brief article. Then go back and read John through several more times. If after this you care still in terested in accepting the way to God through Jesus Christ (or have done it while doing this o b je c tiv e study) won't you write us? Address your letter to the Managing Editor, The King's Business, 55 8 South Hope St., Los Angeles 17, Calif. Mark your letter personal.
The comments A ll references to the Bible in these comments are from the Gospel of John and w ill be re ferred to b y chapter number followed b y the verse in that chapter. Example: 1:1 would refer to John chapter one, verse one. Since these comments are made b y a fellow human they are subject to error and are meant on ly as a guide to your own s e a r c h in g . Recall the words in 7:51: “ Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?” That’s the purpose of these comments . . . to encourage an honest hearing of the claims of Jesus Christ. Read the record. Study the comments. Sort the facts. Then come to a judg ment of your own. In the beginning 1 :1 ,2 ) “ In the beginning was the W ord , and the W ord was with God, and the W o rd was God. The same was in the be g in n in g w it h G o d .” T h e “ W ord ” is Jesus Christ. This is an important reference to His deity and lays the foundations for the startling claims that are to follow in this Gospel. 1 :1 2 ,1 3 ) “ But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: W h ich were bom ,
