Indo hermit crabs patrol the gardens at night
numerous small bats flying about catching insects. Always on the wing, it is almost impossible to get a good look at these tiny bats but we do manage to spy their large cousins, the insular flying fox. Feeding in the trees on fruits and flowers, it’s not hard to find these fruit bats as they make quite a racket. After managing to find their daytime roosting spot, we also get to watch them when they are a little quieter. Night after night we look for nocturnal wildlife, as there is one animal we are really hoping to see – a common spotted cuscus. This possum- like marsupial is found throughout most of PNG and was introduced to this area “We take care to keep our feet well away from their very large claws”
