FLOWERS
Maintenance – All beds will continue to be kept weed free. Poppies and geraniums will be deadheaded first week in march
Notes:
* March is a busy month in the landscape. Warm weather promotes a lot of growth and the return of pest problems. This is a good month for planting and special projects. Frost sensitive plants can now be planted. Turf areas that were not overseeded with rye grass should be fertilized to promote growth. If a pre - emergent herbi- cide was not applied in February it should be applied early this month to prevent crabgrass and other weeds. Irriga- tion will need to be increased as temperatures rise. Now is a good time to reduce overgrown plants. Shrubs will grow rapidly this month. Plan on pruning to keep up with the growth. Tender new growth attracts pests such as aphids, scales, mealy bugs, etc. Monitor pest levels and treat, as necessary. Annual flowers may require pinching back or removal of spent flowers. Monitor for pests and disease. Fertilize if plants are yellow or not growing vigorously. If not treated last month, Olive trees can still be treated to prevent fruit .
