Drum Long Line Catheter Catheter-through-Catheter Introduction Style
Recommended indwell time up to 30 days.
• Recommended for administration of vesicant drugs (hypertonic solutions, chemotherapeutics, vasopressors, etc.) and/or serial blood draws • The drum houses the long catheter and is an advancement system designed to minimize the risk of touch contamination • Introduction technique: Long catheter through introducer catheter • The INTRODUCER CATHETER REMAINS INDWELLING and the long catheter hub screws onto the introducer catheter hub - since the introducer catheter remains indwelling, the long catheter can be easily replaced through the same introducer, avoiding another needle stick • Long catheter material is radiopaque, kink-resistant polyurethane • Kit includes catheter-over-needle introducer, a long catheter with stiffening wire, drum, and gauze
IDEAL FOR: 1. Administration of vasopressor (e.g., norepinephrine) when a central line is not feasible 2. High-concentrated dextrose administration to crashing hypoglycemic patient 3. Serial blood draws 4. Blood glucose curves

Insert introducer catheter into vessel. Remove needle.
Insert tip of drum into catheter hub.
Rotate wheel clockwise to advance the long catheter until resistance is met OR the long black mark appears.
Gently pop open the drum.

Further advance the long catheter manually and luer lock the two hubs together.
Remove stiffening stylet from long catheter.
Confirm placement by aspiration of blood, then attach a stasis valve or extension set and flush.
Place gauze underneath catheter hub to absorb pressure from the hub.
