When was the last time you had your clubs re-gripped? Eighteen months is the absolute maximum you should wait to change your grips because slick or worn grips can have a negative impact on your game, like driving on worn tires. Maintaining proper grip pressure is essential in making a smooth swing, but worn grips require tighter grip pressure which inhibits the swing. Worn grips are especially slippery in wet conditions. Degradation is gradual, so you may not even realize how worn they have gotten. Stop by either Golf Shop for more information or to have one of the Golf Professionals take look at your grips. Are Your Clubs Ready for the Golf Season?
Spring Senior A-team competition is rapidly approaching! With the dissolution of the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association, the Northern Virginia Golf Association is revamping the Spring Senior A-team competition. Hence, participating clubs will be from NOVA (no MD clubs). They expect 16 clubs will participate. Although it is not “official” yet, the schedule we are planning for Senior A-Team looks like this: Bracket play 5, 6, 12 and 13 (rain make-up or schedule 2025 NVGA Senior Men’s ‘A’ Team
conflict alternate date) April Round of 8: Saturday, 19 April Easter Sunday, 20 April --- no play. Semi-finals (round of 4) – Saturday, 26 April Finals -- Sunday, 27 April
Format: 2 best-ball scratch matches at each club (8 players total from each club; 4 play at home, 4 play on the road). Each match is worth 3 points: 1 for the front, 1 for the back, and 1 for the 18 holes. If a 9 or the 18 is tied, each team receives ½ point. There is a total of 12 points. In the event of a tie, there is a sudden death playoff at the home club (the home club is identified before the match). We want to field the best players for each match. We also want to offer opportunities for interested players to showcase their talent. We will reserve 3 tee times, about 12:30-1:00 PM, at Fairfax on 22, 23, 29, and 30 March. The intent is to have fun, build camaraderie, and give everyone the chance to display their game. You can play all four times, or fewer, but we do expect everyone interested to play at least once (unless there are circumstances preventing you from playing). We also want to acknowledge the leadership and dedication of Lynn Wessman. Lynn has been the spirit of ANCC Senior Golf for many years. He will continue to support the competition as he co-leads the NOVA Golf Association. Thanks for a job well done! If you have a handicap of six (6) or below and are interested in being considered for the team, please contact the team Captain, Steve Galing at (703) 407-0703 or steven_galing@msn.com or Co-Captain, John Giuseppe at (703) 855-3047 or giuseppeje@gmail.com.
