Road rage assault case An Alfred man faces charges after OPP were called out, on April 6, to reported “road rage” incident that began in Alfred-Plantagenet Town- ship and finished in Hawkesbury. Paul Giroux, 40, of Alfred, is charged with assault with a weapon. The Hawkesbury detachment received a call just before 9:30 p.m. about an assault in town which was the result of a road rage situation that originated earlier in the evening in Alfred- Plantagenet. Police incident report states that the alleged victim of the assault had passed a slow-moving vehicle on County Road 17. That vehicle then sped up and began tailgating the other one all the way to Hawkesbury into the Thai Express restaurant parking lot on Tupper Street. The police report states that “the agitated driver walked up to the victim’s vehicle, holding a long hammer and started yelling at the victim while waving the hammer in a threatening manner.” A passerby witnessed the activity and phoned 911. Police arrived and arrested Giroux who was later released on a promise to appear at the May 4 provincial court session in L’Orignal. – Gregg Chamberlain Aucun changement au conseil d’administration Les trois administrateurs sortants, le président Jean-François Bertrand, la vice- présidente Ann St-Jean et le président du comité de vérification, Sylvain Charlebois, ont tous trois été réélus sans opposition. Bien connue des citoyens pour son engagement dans la collectivité, la Caisse populaire de Hawkesbury a également plus de 1,6M$ en bourses d’études et en appui à différentes initiatives visant la persévérance scolaire, par l’entremise de la Fondation Desjardins. Plus de 37 245 $ ont aussi été remis à des organismes et partenaires locaux durant l’année 2015. Le directeur général de la Caisse, Lionel Renaud, a indiqué dans le rapport que l’actif de la coopérative se chiffre à 259,5 M$, ce qui représente une augmentation de 0,39 % par rapport à l’année 2014. En date du 31 décembre 2015, l’avoir de la Caisse a connu une croissance de 13,6 % totalisant 28,4M$. Une somme totalisant près de 424 000 $ a également été versée dans le Fonds d’aide au développement du milieu. Pas de ristournes en 2016 Bien qu’au terme de l’année la Caisse de Hawkesbury ait généré des excédents de 3,33 M$, soit une hausse de 9,9 % par rapport à 2014, aucune ristourne ne sera versée aux membres cette année. « Les résultats de l’année 2015 nous incitent à prendre des décisions prudentes afin de favoriser la solidité financière et le développement de notre coopérative, peut-on lire dans le mot du directeur général publié dans le rapport annuel. C’est pourquoi nous ne serons pas en mesure de verser de ristournes ». Cependant, unmontant de 10 000 $ sera versé au Fonds d’aide au développement du milieu.
