ELEMENT 5.2 - WHEN TO ESTABLISH AN ELECTRICALLY SAFE WORK CONDITION

Learning objective:

The participants can discuss the importance of establishing an electrically safe work condition (Knowledge, intermediate level) The participants can explain when to establish an electrically safe work condition (Knowledge, intermediate level)

The instructor shall:

Facilitate group discussions about the importance of establishing an electrically safe work condition:

Brainstorming on what could go wrong, if you open a breaker or an isolation and start working on the components supplied from it?

Possibilities that could happened and could be covered in the group discussion:

i. Selection of the wrong breaker

ii. The breaker is not really isolating

iii. Someone else close the breaker

iv. Stored energy present

v. Backup system

vi. Faulty or deranged equipment

vii. Remote access

viii. Timers

The participant shall:

Engage above group discussion about the importance of establishing an electrically safe work condition

The instructor shall:

Present when to establish an electrically safe work condition i.e. before entering or whenever someone has to enter the Limited Approach Boundary to do a task, there has to be established an electrically safe work condition. Exceptions to this could be:

Switching.

Diagnosing and testing.
