Dennis P. Collins Park Bayonne, New Jersey
Dennis P. Collins Park is the largest municipal park in Bayonne, NJ. Two phases of substantial renovation started in the early 2020s. The second phase included an amusement park themed play environment that pays homage to the former Uncle Milty’s Amusement Park or “Miltyville,” that used to occupy the grounds. It was one of the most popular attractions in the city during the 1950s and 60s until it was closed and demolished in the 70s. Many details and elements were thoughtfully and intentionally included to reflect the historical significance of the area. This includes a roller coaster structure, amusement tower, shaded area of spring riders depicting a carousel, and a Miltyville ticket booth, an ode to the original structure. “When you think about Uncle Milty’s we also have to try to preserve our past,” Mayor James Davis said. “I’m always going to try to keep our past a part of our future. That’s what we need to do so that we can never forget everything and where we came from.” Dennis P. Collins Park Playground Pays Homage to Locally Famous Amusement Park
