Moss - or, more accurately, mosses - don’t have roots! Instead, they have cell filaments called rhizoids, small hair-like structures that help moss attach to many different kinds of surfaces. The rhizoids can also help mosses obtain nutrients, but most mosses draw moisture and minerals from rain and the water around them through their highly absorbent surfaces. A Note from the Editor:

Hello, everyone! It’s hard to believe the end of the semester is just around the bend. It feels as if so much has happened between now and September, and yet it has all passed in the blink of an eye! I know personally, it’s been a bit of a tough journey as I continue to balance work, graduate studies, and late-stage capitalism, so I’m looking forward to taking a well-deserved rest this coming winter break. I hope you all will take the time to rest this coming winter break, as well. Spend valuable time with friends, pets, and/or loved ones, take those beloved afternoon naps, and express yourself through your favorite pastimes - whatever makes you feel happy and healthy! In the interim, keep up the great work - I understand that it may not always feel like it, but each of you are doing amazing. And if you ever need some support, you know where to find me! Thank you for reading this edition of the newsletter and continuing to support the School of Arts, Sciences & Education here at Ivy Tech Indianapolis. Please look forward to the next edition in the new year!
