FILLING THE SKILLS GAP IN UK CONSTRUCTION
Training staff at Pearson TQ Construction Academy in Kent.
A s construction sites get smarter and infrastructure needs grow, the pressure’s on to find people with the right skills, right now. But for many in the industry, the gap between what’s needed and what’s available is becoming a real challenge. A recent report* highlights the scale of the problem, pointing to lost value when businesses can’t get the skills they need. The UK Government has responded with a £600 million investment into the sector, announced in March 2025, to help tackle the growing demand for housing and infrastructure. That’s good news - but only if the people are there to deliver it. CITB’s latest figures suggest we’ll need an extra 251,500 workers by 2028 just to keep up with output. That’s where targeted, high-quality training comes in. At Pearson TQ, we help employers close that skills gap - not with off-the- shelf training, but with practical, industry- relevant programmes designed around their specific needs. Whether you’re taking on new recruits or upskilling experienced operators, we’ll work with you to build a confident, capable workforce. Our Construction Academy in Swanley has been supporting Kent businesses for over 20 years. With our occupationally competent trainers, a classroom capacity for 40+ learners and a training area
spanning 20,000 m², we are a name you can trust. We’re proud to be an accredited CPCS test centre and an NPORS Accredited Training Provider (ATP), delivering more than 35 NOCN courses and over 40 NPORS qualifications. We can also deliver most of our courses nationwide, either at our customers’ premises or an alternative suitable location. From operating an excavator to first aid and health and safety management on site, our offer covers the skills that matter most to construction employers and employees.
Because closing the skills gap isn’t just about recruitment – it’s about investment, partnership, and getting the training right. *Pearson - Lost in Transition: Fixing the “Learn to Earn” Skills Gap
