Life with Lana // Chasing the Dream Lana sits down with Plant Planet to discuss the idea of going after what you truly want, and what that means for her as a long-time person in construction. “All I have ever wanted was my own machine,” explains Lana as she continues to operate her machine at her new worksite. “I grew up taking care of machines, and when you work in plant hire, you see some people abuse them. They let them get into such a dire state and I honestly hate it. They deserve more respect. Money is all very well and good. It makes the world go round, as they say. But money comes and goes. Working with my own machine has always been, and will always be my dream.”
That’s not to say this isn’t something she’d had before. Unfortunately, even when you achieve your goals, they can still be taken away. Lana is famous in the community for being Lady Lana’s operator, her very own machine that she was given when working for R O’Donnell. But when the business owner fell ill, the business closed and she lost Lady Lana. “Lady Lana was honestly some of the happiest times of my life. She was my dream machine, even with custom pink just for me. I adored her. Losing her was incredibly hard. It was simply that I had my own space I made my own. Richard giving me that machine demonstrated that he saw something in me; he believed in me. Let me tell you, that’s so rare. Particularly after Lady Lana, I was even more set on getting that feeling back.”
It’s an interesting concept, isn’t it? Living the Dream. We hear it all the time (usually as a flippant comment to ‘how are you?’), but what does it actually mean when it comes to construction? In short… it means a lot of different things as there is no ‘one dream’. Each individual wants something different for their career, and one such individual is Lana Edwards. And as someone who has been in the industry her entire life, there’s no one better to discuss the pursuit of the aforementioned dream. Especially as very recently, she might very well have found what she was really looking for. Her very own machine.
