JUNE 2024 & FEBRUARY 2025 – VOLVO CE In June 2024, Rebecca took a trip to Sweden and learned all about Volvo’s history and range of machinery. Then, in February the next year, writer Ren followed up visiting one of Volvo’s factories and seeing the unveiling of their new hauler line. On her trip, Rebecca commented, “ It was very clear that their biggest concern was about the planet’s resources. This shone through with pride in the teams who showcased their electric range, and just what they can offer, especially as they form part of Volvo’s biggest launch yet.” Ren heard from Kristina Tejler, Head of Quality, Environment and Safety, Volvo CE, who spoke on the uses of low carbon steel - a big part of the manufacture of a hauler, I’m sure you can imagine - and were proud to celebrate it’s “climate efficient site” status. Volvo CE’s website has plenty of material on their sustainability plans and efforts. Here’s a few snippets. “Cutting carbon is critical in meeting the ambitions of the Paris Climate Agreement. We are going further by committing to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 – a decade earlier – as validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.” “We must fulfil the demands for construction and infrastructure in a way that respects our planet’s limited resources. We are replacing fossil fuels with clean and renewable energy and improving our ‘reuse, reduce, remanufacture and recycle’ approach.” And, Volvo CE recently announced another major advancement in its sustainability journey, with three additional facilities achieving landfill-free status. Ongoing efforts mean there is also less than 1% landfill waste across all other sites.
