From Representing the State to Representing People

Greetings, newsletter friends! My name is Samuel, and I am the new associate at the Law Office of Matthew Konecky. I began working here in June, and I love what I’ve experienced and learned so far. Everyone here is so welcoming and has helped me feel at home. Growing up, I always wanted to be a lawyer because of my grandfather. He started practicing law in the ‘60s, and I loved hearing about his experiences. I looked up to him and wanted to follow in his footsteps. To become a lawyer like my grandfather, I attended the University of Florida for law school and began interning at the Attorney General’s office. I worked in the statewide prosecution center, which opened my eyes to criminal law. It felt like it was an area where I could have the most impact. I enjoyed being in the courtroom, talking in front of a judge, and defending my claims to a jury, so I decided to take criminal law classes for my remaining time in law school. I continued to intern at the Attorney General’s office, but I began working there full-time once I passed the bar in 2016. The exciting thing about working at the Attorney General’s office is that I represented the state rather than a client. After working there for six years, I gained insight into what the state is looking for when defending a case. This knowledge allows me to better serve my clients at the Law Office of Matthew Konecky because I know what the state will try to argue and use as evidence. In addition, this insight gives me an edge because not many attorneys have the experience and knowledge I do. Although I enjoyed working with the state, I wanted to help people and give them a second chance. The expertise I’ve developed could help someone in need, which motivated me to go a different route. So, I began my search and saw Matthew’s name pop up. He was familiar to me because I had worked with Meet Our New Associate, Samuel!

him on previous cases. I decided to give him a call, and I got an interview. Then, in June 2022, I began working here.

I enjoy interacting with clients over the phone and in person. It’s rewarding to hear and see the stress lifted off clients’ shoulders when I provide them with information that can help their case. This is my first time interacting with clients because we didn’t have clients when working for the state. The only time I interacted with others was when I was interviewing or cross-examining witnesses and victims. But now, I can develop personal relationships with clients to serve them and their needs better. Seeing the smile on their faces is all the thanks I need. It’s rewarding and refreshing to be in this line of work. Although it’s a different dynamic than I’m used to, it’s enjoyable. I’m looking forward to what the future holds and helping as many people as possible. I can’t wait to meet you all and help you with your needs.

One Lawn at a Time Helping Bring People Together

Today, there is a divide between younger and older generations, but one man is trying to bridge that gap by encouraging boys and girls to give back to their community. In 2016, Rodney A. Smith Jr. saw an elderly man struggling to mow his lawn and decided to finish the job for him. It inspired him to start a movement for children aged 7–17 to give back to their communities by taking on the 50-yard challenge. Kids contribute by mowing lawns for single parents, veterans, seniors, and people who have disabilities. Once they reach their goal, kids will receive T-shirts, a brand-new mower, a weed eater, and a leaf blower. Smith Jr. will also come out to your community and help you with your lawn care services.

This challenge teaches children the value of giving back to their communities, but it also encourages them to learn skills in lawn service — which not a lot of young adults know how to do. It also helps them interact with others who they wouldn’t typically talk with. “[Unity and interaction] is important in this day and age. A lot of elderly people are stuck at home, and they don’t get to have a lot of human interaction. So when kids come by, they can

talk, get to know each other, and build relationships. They can learn things from each other,” Smith Jr. says.

At first, the 50-yard challenge took place locally in Alabama. But in the last few years, kids across the U.S. have begun participating. “Right now, we have over 2,400 kids nationwide taking part in our challenge. We also have kids in eight other countries taking part as well,” Smith Jr. says.

Are you and your kids up for the 50-yard challenge? Send a picture of your child holding a sign that says, “I Accept The 50 Yard Challenge” to

“I was recommended Attorney Matthew Konecky through an old friend of his. I had a civil issue that was just on the tip of being criminal. However, if it weren’t for the glory of God, he would have not placed Matthew’s services in my path. Matthew is professional, courteous, and knowledgeable and definitely knew his stuff. Additionally, he is honestly transparent, which is something that sets him apart from attorneys in his particular practice of law. I highly recommend Matthew above any attorney in Palm Beach. You won’t regret it.” –Carlos R. A MESSAGE FROM THE FAITHFUL

WHEN MAKING A PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM 4 Common Mistakes People Make

Suffering from a personal injury due to an accident is stressful. But filing a claim adds more stress and anxiety — especially if you’re unsure what to do. Here are four common mistakes clients make when dealing with personal injury claims. 1. Thinking You Can’t Afford a Lawyer You don’t have to pay to be represented by an attorney upfront during your first consultation. Almost every personal injury lawyer will work on a contingency agreement, which states that your attorney will take a percentage of the settlement offer from your case. Usually, the portion is between 10%–45%, with 33% being the average. 2. Giving the Insurance Company an Official Statement Never give an insurance company an official statement without speaking to your attorney first. If you’re representing yourself in an auto accident,

your or the at-fault driver’s insurance company may ask you to make a statement. But if you go this route, your words can be used against you. Your attorney will help you create your statement and understand what you’re answering. 3. Assuming You Have to Go to Court Most claims reach an agreement with your attorney and the other party outside of court. You will go through different phases of negotiation with insurance companies on the value of your claim and how much it’s worth. If both parties cannot reach an agreement, then you will go to court. The insurance companies will spend more time and money if the case gets far. So, they want to settle outside the courtroom. 4. Not Seeking Medical Attention If you receive a minor or severe injury, it’s best to get it checked out by a professional. This can only help strengthen your case because you will have

documents of your injuries, what they will affect in the present day and the future, and if you have any percentage of disability. If you have questions about your personal injury claim or need assistance, please allow us at the Law Office of Matthew Konecky to assist you. We will be happy to look over your claim and guide you through this process. You can also download my FREE personal injury book at MatthewKoneckyPA.com/Reports for more information.

4 Reasons to Start Golfing This Summer

Golf is an enjoyable sport that anyone can participate in regardless of experience, ability, and age. There’s nothing quite like teeing off on the first hole after a difficult week of work. Though it can certainly be frustrating at times, golf is a fun sport with many amazing perks. Reading the following benefits will make you want to head to your local course, even if you’re not a regular golfer. It’s great exercise. Playing a full 18 holes of golf can be exhausting and for good reason. Swinging a golf club works your forearms, core, shoulders, and back muscles. If you choose to walk the course, you’ll be getting in a great workout as the average course length is about 4 miles. You can also carry your golf bag for an even better workout. It builds character. It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned golfer or on the course for the first time, you are not going to have a perfect round. You may miss a Tee Off This Summer 4 GREAT BENEFITS OF GOLF

putt or end up in the sand trap, but you decide how you react to the situation. You can get mad and potentially play worse or understand that everything is not always going to work out in golf. That lesson can even be applied to your everyday life. It’ll draw you outside. Most of us can use some additional time outdoors, and golf provides the perfect opportunity. Between rolling hills, picturesque ponds, and lush trees, the golf course is a beautiful setting. Even if you’re playing poorly, you can still enjoy being outside for a few hours out of your day. It’s fun for the entire family. Golf isn’t just for businessmen. Anyone can find enjoyment in the game. It can be a great weekend activity for the entire family or the perfect bonding experience between relatives. There are par 3 courses across the country that offer an easier experience for new golfers, and you can always play nine holes instead of 18 to cut down on time and conserve energy.
