Department of Physics and Astronomy

The Department of Physics and Astronomy offers students an engaging environment to study the fundamental laws of nature and explore the universe. The department offers two degree programs, the Bachelor of Science in Astronomy and the Bachelor of Science in Space Physics. Faculty work one-on-one with students and aid in undergraduate research opportunities. The Astronomy program combines physics and astronomy courses, hands-on lab work and use of the Observatory Complex to study the universe. Our Space Physics program offers a comprehensive physics education with a focus on space-related topics such as astronomy, optics, remote sensing, particle physics and cosmology. Students in either program undertake a yearlong thesis research project, acquiring research skills applicable in a variety of STEM careers.
