of Education” etched on it. The apple symbolizes the commitment to furthering the honorable profession of education. It is given to all endowed donors of their scholarships. Group photos were taken with Boyd outside of the SOE with a banner featuring Founder Diggs in the background. Diggs is featured among several other esteemed SOE alumni who have banners on light poles along the walkways leading to the W.W. Wright Education Building. He was the first of the distinguished SOE alumni to have his likeness created and displayed. The inaugural award reception and recognition of Founder Diggs with this endowed scholarship is a tribute to his dedication to education and acknowl- edgment of him being the first African American graduate from the School of Education. The Elder Watson Diggs Scholarship is an annual scholarship endowment, awarded to Indiana University under- graduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in the School of Education on the Bloomington campus who have an evidenced interest and involvement with diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessi- bility practices and/or research and have demonstrated financial need. Special consideration will be given to underrep- resented populations, with a preference for African American students. The num- ber, amount(s), and recipient(s) of the Scholarship will be determined by the Scholarship Committee of the School. Brothers are encouraged to contribute monetary gifts to support this endow- ment. Your donation will help preserve Founder Diggs’ legacy at Indiana Uni- versity and make a difference in the training of the next generation of leaders. The sustained development of the Elder Watson Diggs Scholarship will depend on the generosity of alumni and those of us committed to the possibilities of educa- tion. Please consider a gift to support this important project. All contributions to the Elder Watson Diggs Scholarship will be used to attract outstanding and talented students from historically under- represented populations.
