Earl Hines 1944-2021 Collegiate Basketball Player, Community Leader

He was a member of the Alpha Omega National Service Fraternity, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and life member of the Disabled American Veterans Organiza- tion. Hollowell was a Sunday School and Bible Study teacher for 30+ years. He leaves to cherish his memories: five loving children, Needra L. Hollowell (Gerald) of Kansas City, Kansas; Brian C. Hollowell of Kansas City, Missouri; Lawanda D. Hollowell Willis; Crystal L. Hollowell; and Ashton A. Hollowell; all Little Rock, Arkansas; Grandchildren: Christian Buckner, Ja’cquel Buckner, Brian Hollowell, Brandon Hollowell, Bria Hollowell, Alexa Wilson (Sean), Julian Willis, Cornelius Hollowell, and Brooklyn Hollowell. Two great-grand- children: Camden Buckner and Avianna Willis. One adopted daughter Nikkitha P. Mosley of Little Rock, Arkansas; two brothers: Kelsey Hollowell Jr, of New Orleans, Louisiana; and Latham Hollow- ell (Tanuger), of Memphis, Tennessee. Two sisters: Dr. Ella (Roz) Hollowell- Watson (Vernon) and Carolyn Hollowell Faulkner. Three uncles: Charles Hol- lowell, Lincoln Hollowell, and Ernest Johnson; One aunt: Edna Scott, all of Memphis, Tennessee, along with a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Calvin Cornelius Hollowell (Beta Tau 1965) was born in Raleigh, Tennessee, to the

as the Polemarch of the San Diego Alumni Chapter (W) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was a member of the initial inductees of the San Diego Alumni Chapter (W) Living Legends. Brother Hines was extremely active in his community and was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Brother Hines born in Birmingham, Alabama but relocated at age 5 with his family to San Diego, CA. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963 and joined the United States Air Force soon after. After serving his assignment with the US Air Force he enrolled into college earning a Bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University and went on to earn a lifetime teaching credential and a Master of Arts in Education. Honor- ably discharged from the US Air Force, Brother Hines began a long teaching career and served as football coach at San Diego High School, and later served as Athletic Director. Brother Hines was a mentor to all students that came into his classroom and participated in high school sports. Brother Hines retired from teaching in 2003. Brother Hines was a lifelong learner and was always teaching himself something new. He loved music and hobbies like working on his golf game, home im- provements projects, fishing, learning to play musical instruments, experimenting with new recipes, perfecting his deli- cious homemade secret barbeque sauce and, watching documentaries. Brother Hines leaves his loving wife Georgia C. Hines, daughters Robyn

Both of whom preceded him in death, along with brothers Kelsey Julius Hollowell, Jr., Elvin Hollowell, Alfred Henry Hollowell, and sister Sadie Hollowell Walker (Jim). He was raised in the Spring Hill Com- munity of Raleigh, Tennessee, where he attended Spring Hill Elementary School, Hollowell attended and graduated from Wood Stock High School in Millington, Tennessee, in 1962. He was an out- standing athlete and lettered all four years in baseball, basketball, and track. After high school, Hollowell received a four-year scholarship to attend Philander Smith College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. He also attended the University of Central Arkansas and received a Master of Science in Educa- tion. Hollowell served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War where he received the National Defense Service ribbon, the Vietnam Services Ribbon, and the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, all with two oak leaf clusters. He also re- ceived a Purple Heart, The presidential Unit Citation, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Citation with two oak leaf clusters, the Airman's Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Services and Valor.
