MERRY AND BRIGHT Celebrating the Magic of the Holidays

I hear holiday music in every store and see Christmas lights up and down every street — the holiday season is here, and I’m thrilled! Living in Arizona, the summer heat is downright brutal (I know you guys all are with me there), and the arrival of cooler days and chilly nights is more than welcome. However, it’s the holiday decorations, the feelings of togetherness, and the contagious holiday joy that make this time of year truly magical. The holiday season is always one that I look forward to — not just for the festivities but for the sense of goodwill that seems to embrace everyone. This time of year, hearts are light. People are more inclined to spread kindness, share smiles, and extend gestures of giving and charity. The world, for a fleeting moment, seems to carry a sentiment of peace and joy. I can’t help but ponder the profound question: What if this spirit of kindness and generosity could continue beyond the holidays? For some, it does! For as long as I can remember, my family has embraced the reason for the season by helping those in need. We have fostered connections with less fortunate families, ensuring that they, too, experience the magic of Christmas. By collaborating with

groups that link us with needy refugees or individuals new to the United States, we’ve had the privilege of creating a holiday for these families. The joy that lights up their faces when they receive the gifts and support is priceless. It’s a reminder that, even in the midst of our own celebrations, there is immense satisfaction in being able to make a positive impact on the lives of others. At Moxie Pest Control, the spirit of giving is deeply rooted in our company culture. For the last 15–20 years, we’ve collaborated with Best Buddies to host a Special Needs Dance, a fun event that brings joy to individuals with special needs. The dance is not just a celebration; it’s a way to give back and make a difference. Each year, Moxie Pest Control also hosts a coat drive. By collecting thousands of coat donations, we strive to ensure that those in need are provided with warmth during the colder months. The coat drive is proof that even small acts of kindness, when multiplied, can create a significant and lasting impact on the lives of individuals and families.

connection, and giving that define this time of year. Amid the festivities, I extend warm wishes to everyone — Happy Holidays! May this season of giving and paying it forward fill your hearts with warmth, your homes with joy, and the world with a sense of community that lasts far beyond the holidays. Here’s to making a difference, one act of kindness at a time, and creating a world where the spirit of giving is a guiding force throughout the entire year. –Austin Clark

As Christmas and the holidays approach, I look forward to the moments of joy,

If your interior design needs a pick-me-up, an easy way to improve your home’s look is to add potted plants! Both big and small indoor plants can add the unique design touch you’ve been looking for, but here are three other reasons why you should put a few indoor plants inside your home. Unbe-leaf-ably Easy Indoor Plant Design Hacks

Fill a space.

Adding a plant is an excellent way to fill any area in your home that feels empty! Instead of just having a plain corner where two walls meet, placing a tall potted plant can create a more cozy, lived-in, yet stylish feeling.

Add variation and color.

A vibrant, colorful plant (with or without flowers) can change things up if everything in your home generally looks the same, especially if you have abundant straight lines or single height points.

Cover up imperfections.

If stray balls, spills, crayons, or other mishaps have damaged your walls, a plant is a stylish way to hide the blemish!

THINK OUTSIDE THE GIFT BOX

Start a New Tradition This Christmas

Christmas is built on tradition. Many families celebrate the holiday by waking up bright and early to open presents, attending church, having a delicious meal, and closing the day with “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Elf,” or another Christmas classic. Some families have been doing this for so long that they’re starting to look for new traditions to throw in the mix to spice up the season a little more. There are plenty of ways to change your holiday traditions without losing the meaning of the season! You could go caroling or try out a white elephant gift exchange with the entire family. If you’re looking for something unique, try one of the following activities this year. The Christmas Box One of the most exciting parts of Christmas is when everyone gathers to open gifts. The Christmas box

gives you an opportunity to create a new tradition around gift-giving. Fill a medium- or large-size gift box with smaller items you like to give each year. You can stuff it with Christmas pajamas, mugs, books, movies, and other small gifts you know your family or friends will love. Refill the box with different versions of these items every year. You can also do this with your friends in place of a Secret Santa gift exchange. Set a budget and draw names to determine whom each person will give their box to. From there, you go to local garage sales, dollar stores, and thrift shops to fill the box with things the person will like. A Reminder of Past Christmases Do you buy a real tree every Christmas? Most of us bring our old trees out to the curb when the holiday passes. Before you do so, cut off the very bottom of the tree trunk. Write the date on it and include

any extra information you want, such as a child’s or pet’s first Christmas. After a few years, you’ll have a collection of tree trunk rounds that help you reminisce about one of the happiest days of the year and all the memories you made.

Strategies to Prevent Scorpions in Your Home Our unique desert landscape is home to various wildlife, including the infamous scorpion. While these arachnids play a role in the ecosystem, encountering them indoors is far from desirable. Here are four tips to prevent scorpions from entering your home! Seal Entry Points Seal any cracks, gaps, or openings in windows, doors, and walls. Scorpions can squeeze through surprisingly small spaces. Maintain Landscaping Keep the exterior of your home well-maintained. Trim trees, bushes, and plants around the house, as scorpions use these as pathways.

If you’re a Costco shopper and want to stay in the loop, make sure to follow her on Instagram and TikTok.

Remove Harborages Eliminate potential hiding spots for scorpions by clearing debris, rocks, and woodpiles. Reduce Moisture Scorpions are attracted to moisture, so fix any leaks and eliminate standing water!
