ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

Dulwich inventive

This year’s Dulwich Inventive week proved to be as successful as ever as boys engaged in numerous activities to immerse them in the world of Science. Daily code breaking challenges had the boys racking their problem solving brains, whilst spin painting in the Art department resulted in some spectacular artwork. Mr Wilson shared his ‘top five inventions’ of all time in assembly and during Science lessons the boys painted with acids and alkalis! Tim Rowett, from Grand Illusions popped in to show off his inventive toy collection, with curiosities ranging from goggles that turn the world upside down to magnetic levitation. We were also thrilled to welcome Lord Winston to speak to the Year 3 boys. He entranced them by asking them to breathe in the DNA of the boy sitting next to them; he then fielded fascinating questions such as ‘what is earwax made of’, ‘what is the difference between your brain and your mind’, and explaining why it is vital for scientists to make mistakes. As part of a school wide competition all boys also designed their very own inventions, with some individuals even going as far as making their very own working prototype.
