Chapel Choir and Concert Orchestra. Alan directed the College Concert Choir in its performance at St John’s Smith Square and has shaped an exciting and stimulating programme for the Junior School’s Music, which now includes the impressive Christmas Celebration, the Great Hall Concert, Year 6 musicals and numerous drop in and play concerts. The remarkable number of boys committed to these Junior School occasions is clear testament to Alan’s dedication, purpose and love of music. He also played a significant role in the boarding life of the College having been a tutor in The Orchard since his arrival. Alan leaves the College to become Head of Academic Music at Dulwich College Singapore - a job that enables him to further his teaching through to GCSE and ultimately A-level. His sense of fun and strong opinions on everything will be much missed by the Junior School but we wish him every success for the future. Chris Starkey Chris Starkey went to many years in the Junior School he served as a Year 4 Form Tutor, later to become the Head of Year 4. The area in which Chris really pushed the boundaries was with his contribution to drama and the Year 6 performances of Forbidden Planet and Joseph. Chris himself was a keen performer and starred in productions such as Victor Victoria and The Man of La Mancha, often gaining standing ovations; but this pales in comparison to his leading role in the staff band ‘No Direction’ who would often play off leaving staff members with alternative versions of memorable songs. We all have fond memories of Mr Starkey and wish him well in his new role as Head of Drama at Newton Prep. Alva Barton lengths during his time in Junior School to give the pupils memorable learning experiences and it is with sadness that we bid him farewell. During his four

classes, she was highly dedicated to her job and cared deeply for the wellbeing of all the pupils she taught. Alva’s dedication towards the Year 6 play, Beaver Towers was evident for all to see in the weeks and months prior to the production, and she should be commended for her unwavering support with the Year 6 boys through the rehearsal process. She is leaving us to embark on a lifelong dream of travelling around Europe with her family; we wish Alva well wherever she ends up on her travels. Morgana Osborne a big impression with both pupils and staff, particularly in the Art and DT areas of the Junior School. She taught with enthusiasm and a very caring attitude. She made a great contribution to the planning of the Young Art competition and ran a very busy after school DT club, as well as teaching really enjoyable lessons. Morgana left us to become the new Head of Art at Keble Prep school, where we all wish her the very best. . Robbie Broughton a Form Tutor, History Coordinator and a phenomenally successful Housemaster of Howard. He must be commended for Howard’s unrivalled achievements in the House competitions in recent years. As a keen sportsman, Robbie keenly coached numerous sports teams; he also transferred his love of cycling onto many boys through setting up cycling clubs and even leading cycling trips abroad with Junior and Lower school pupils. He leaves the teaching profession to embark on a business project (RideVelo) which will allow Robbie the chance to pursue his passion for business and all things cycling. We wish him well with this exciting venture. Robbie Broughton is leaving Dulwich after nine years of dedicated service to the boys and the Junior School. During his time here he has been At the end of our busy Lent term, we had to say farewell to Morgana Osbourne, who had been covering Mrs Alderman’s maternity leave. In her short time with us Morgana made

Chris Skelton joined the Junior School in September 2012 from the state sector as Deputy Head. He brought to us a very professional and organised

management style that was founded on an immaculate educational philosophy that put the children first and doing the ‘right thing’, regardless if it was in the rules or what was expected of him. He constantly took on extra roles and responsibilities if they needed doing and if it would benefit the boys. Examples of this could be staying frequently late to help out or letting staff not having to stay, doing extra social skills sessions with boys who were finding it difficult to settle in, redeveloping the IT curriculum, organising all the inspection documentation or transforming the Junior School shared area of electronic files to make it accessible and clear for all to use. As a teacher he worked hard and conscientiously for his sets and really enjoyed his middle set in Year 6 maths as well as his IT. He was committed to the extra-curricular life of the school too, as was shown in his organisation of the swimming teams, on trips and his role in Games. As a colleague he was incredibly well liked and respected as he was able to be approachable to all but could manage and lead with a firm but fair hand. We will greatly miss Chris for his smile, his energy and his constant desire to do a great job. We will also miss his grey suits (which thankfully were less in evidence in his last year), his towel gently drying on his radiator from his early morning swimming and most of all his eating his porridge in the morning from a teapot! We wish him the best of luck at Newton Prep and are sure that it won’t be long before he will be running a school of his own in the future. Alan Quadros
