HUMAN RESOURCES SUMMARY OF SERVICES

The City of Irvine Human Resources team is responsible for cultivating positive working relationships by creating and enhancing valuable services that attract, develop, and retain a talented and diverse workforce that is well equipped to anticipate and respond to the changing needs of our residents, visitors and business community.

Accomplishments 

Evaluated over 18,000 job applications, tested over 2,800 candidates, interviewed over 1,400 candidates, resulting in approximately 450 full-time and part-time new hires and over 150 promotions. In addition, six executive positions were filled.  Successfully hired 24 new Police Officers and 7 Dispatchers in the last year. Over 1,500 Police Officer candidates applied to work for the City.  Designed and implemented a citywide recruitment survey to continuously improve services for new hires and hiring managers.  Automated years of service calculations, streamlining the process and time required to manually review each personnel record.  Completed 24 random Department of Transportation drug tests ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal laws while promoting a safe and secure community.  Administered 1,640 employee requests for professional development in support of continued employee growth and advancement.  Conducted a comprehensive classification review of approximately 100 positions throughout the organization ensuring classifications were properly allocated and aligned with City organizational goals.  Launched the Staywell wellness platform to engage, educate and motivate employees to become active participants in their own health and well-being. The digital platform includes personalized technology and information to help employees achieve their health and wellness goals, along with workout videos and educational information to learn more about living a healthier lifestyle.  Ensured the City’s compliance with all federal and state laws and City ordinances, as well as the City’s Personnel Regulations, Memoranda of Understanding, and Salary Resolutions.  Implemented a professional development and training catalog to help further the development of employees including the development of presentation skills and diversity awareness training.  Implemented higher education partnerships with UC Irvine, CSU Fullerton, and Brandman University to foster collaboration with the higher education community and provide additional learning opportunities for city staff.  Centralized contractor tracking, improving efficiency and inter-departmental communication.
