ATHLETICS SUMMARY OF SERVICES

The Athletics section serves the Irvine community with a variety of programs and services, including a comprehensive youth and adult tennis program and adult sports leagues that serve approximately 552 softball teams, 437 gym teams and 451 soccer teams. The section manages reservations for the City’s athletic fields and courts, and IUSD sports facilities that are under joint use agreements. Sports parks host numerous large sports tournaments and events including the American Softball Association’s Champions Cup and the Premier Girls Fast pitch National Championship. The section also manages the City’s Park Ambassador Program and provides staff support to the Irvine Sports Committee. New Sports Facilities: Opened and operated new athletic facilities at Portola Springs, Los Olivos and approximately 100 acres of athletic facilities at the Orange County Great Park Sports Complex.  New Community Programs: Implemented Pickleball Court Pilot programs at San Carlo and Knollcrest Parks.  Awards and Recognition: Named the “Parks and Recreation Agency of the Year” by Tennis Industry magazine.
