Education 6 From innovative preschool programs to world- class doctoral studies, education is a cornerstone of Irvine life. The City’s public schools consistently rank among the finest in California. The Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) educates a diverse population of students, with more than 35,000 kindergartners through 12th-graders in 44 campuses. Irvine students lead Orange County in SAT test scores, with more than 90 percent of IUSD high school graduates

attending college. The Tustin Unified School District also serves Irvine residents with four campuses. The City has consistently provided major support for Irvine schools in recent years. In 2006, the City Council established the Irvine Educational Partnership Fund, a City program that provides annual City funding to support IUSD. The Irvine Educational Partnership Fund supports Irvine students’ academic performance through enhanced, innovative programs and services, including health services and guidance, for K–12 students. Direct and indirect annual support reaches $10.2 million — an amount that may be unprecedented nationwide by any city that does not directly operate its school system.

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is consistently ranked among the nation’s best universities. In the U.S. News &World Report 2019 annual college survey, UCI is ranked third among all universities nationally and ranks seventh among all public universities. Graduate and postgraduate studies are further complemented in Irvine by programs at Irvine Valley College, Concordia University, and Brandman University. Irvine is also home to satellite campuses that include California State University, Fullerton; University of La Verne; Pepperdine University; University of Southern California; Western State College of Law; and Chapman University Harry and Diane Rinker Health Science Campus.
