“The inflation we see in the U.S. is not limited, by any means, to our country. Global inflation, especially in emerg- ing countries, is becoming dangerous. I see very little ef- fective effort, or effort at all, by Washington D.C. to improve anything. In fact, legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act (probably more aptly named the Income Reduction Act) is unlikely to help anyone with the staggering costs of raising their families. So, that is the bad news outlook for 2023. “The good news is that Volk Packaging continued to thrive during the most complex 3-year period since we started in 1967. “Our sales representatives are out every day bringing in new opportunities, which often turn into new business. In addition to my veteran salespeople, we hired some new enthusiastic sales representatives who are eager to prove they have what it takes to be successful. “My team used the slower part of 2022 to do a lot of cross-training, which will be of huge benefit as we lose people due to natural attrition, and as our sales continue to increase. “Our new company, Volk Paxit, a contract packaging business, is really taking off and gaining new customers weekly. As of this writing, we are very close to announcing the purchase of some new machinery to meet the rising demand that we have seen since our last purchase of a flexo in 2019. “Not in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a 55-year-old company in northern New England would grow over 50 percent between 2019 and 2022. Howev- er, that is the wonderful reality. Now I need to make sure my team has the firepower they need to support our new customer base along with the customers who have been with us through thick and thin.
