letter that God had sent to them by the hand of the Apostle Paul and read, "By grace are ye saved.” And all you and I have to do If we really believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, whenever the Devil says to us, “ Don’t be too sure about it, perhaps you are not saved after all,” is to just open the Bible, the book of God, the hook that contains no statements that are not absolutely true, and read Eph. 2:8, “ By grace ye are saved.” Everyone in this house tonight who really believes Jesus Christ, believes not merely in his mind the truth about Christ, but believes in his heart that Jesus is the Son of God, and who therefore has received Jesus, the Son of God, as his own personal Sav iour, and surrendered to Him as his Lord and Master, God says to you, “ You are saved by grace through faith.” And anyone here tonight who has not thus believed in Jesus Christ, but will here and now put your confidence in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and be cause you have put your confidence in Him as the Son of God, accept Him as your personal Saviour, who bore your sins in His own body on the cross, and expect God to forgive you because Jesus died in your place, and surrender to Him as your Divine Master, the moment you do it, God says to you right here in Eph. 2:8, “ By grace are ye saved.” ■ H. Prom What We Are Saved. Now we come to the second question, Prom What Are We Saved? From what may anyone be saved by simply believing in the Lord Jesus? 1. In the first place, the one who believes in Jesus Christ is saved from all guilt. We read in God’s Word in 2 Cor. 5:21 “ Him who knew no sin, (That is Jesus Christ) God made to be sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteous of God in Him.” Christ took our place of guilt and condemnation on the cross, He bore the penalty of our

sins, and the moment we put our trust in Him all our guilt is taken away, and it is just as if we had never committed a sin in bur lives. You say, “ That is wonderful; that is incredible.” Yes, it is wonderful, it is astounding, it does seem incredible, but it is true. God says so. He says it over and over again in a variety of forms. For example, He says in 1 Jno. 1:7, “ If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fel lowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” Every vestige of guilt is taken away the moment anyone be lieves in Jesus Christ. I may have been the vilest sinner this world ever saw, but the moment I accept Jesus Christ as my Saviour, the One who bore my sins in His own body on the cross, the one who died in my place, every trace of guilt is gone, I am “ saved.” Oh, “ saved” is a great word, it is a glorious word. But we sTiall see that there is much more in it yet. 2. In the second place We are saved from God’s displeasure. God is a holy being, “ God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” He is infinitely holy and therefore He hates sin. He hates all sin with infinite hatred. I thank God that He does. I would not want a God who did not hate sin.* It would be awful to have a God ruling this universe who regarded the smallest sin with the least bit of allowance. God hates all sin and is displeased with all sinners. He loves sinners, but He is displeased with them. It is an awful thing to be under the displeasure of God, to have His wrath abiding upon you, but the moment I accept the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour, and surrender to Him as my Lord and Master, that moment the wrath of God against me is all gone forever, for my sin is all blotted out at once by His own hand, and I can look up into the face pi God and He is smiling upon me.
