Tke AccountingDepartment

A ccounting D epartment .

The Accounting Department of the Institute is upon the best possible business basis. Each department reports daily its financial transactions through the Cashier. The system employed enables the Business Manager to know at any time the actual cost of each and every department. The credit of the Institution is excellent. The Busi ness Department places the Institution upon a par with any bank in its system of handling its daily business, its funds and its credit. Through this department were handled the funds used in the construction and equip ment of the Institute building, which is constructed entirely of concrete, reinforced with twelve hundred tons of steel bars. The dormitories at either end of the main auditorium are thirteen stories high, with basements and sub-basements, the founda tions standing upon solid rock thirty-four feet below the level of the street. The auditorium and the two dormitories are all bound together by heavy steel beams, so that they are probably more nearly fire and earthquake proof than any other building in the city. The dormitories contain (including offices) nearly six hundred and fifty rooms, all supplied with steam heat, hot and cold water, electric light, vacuum cleaning facilities, etc., and every floor is amply supplied with tub and shower baths. The heating of the upper and lower auditorium is regulated automatically by the use of thermostat valves. The air supply is thoroughly washed before heating, then admitted at the ceilings and drawn out through the floor by powerful exhaust fans which have a capacity sufficient to change the air every three minutes, if desired, thus giving a constant supply of pure air. The mechanical equipment, consisting of the systems for heating, ventilating, the manufacture of electrical energy and its distribution, is all conceded to be the best obtainable, and was selected, installed and is now operated under the supervision of our Chief Engineer, Mr. M. E. Carrier. Total cost of Buildings, Lots and Equipment, $1,470,000.00.
