THE K I N G ’ S BUS I NESS

Leaving that ship to take a launch to the next steamer waiting— another Japanese steamer—we met a number of people glad to get the printed page. Good interviews followed and finally the worker sat down to a table with three brown men of whom only one could speak English. Another brought the cups of tea for all. The Scriptures were read and Christ presented and Christ and Buddha defended, one by the worker and the other by the man who tried to follow Buddha hut was made uneasy by the reading of the Scripture. The result of that interview was that Buddha’s defender finally broke down before God and accepted Christ. Pray much and rejoice in what He is doing on the ships. OSCAR ZIMMERMANN. Romanism Among Mexicans “ How shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in whom they have not heard?” To many, the above question may not seem applica- SPANISH ble to the Romanist, WORK but while it may he true that they have heard of Him as the Saviour of the world, yet they have not believed in Him as their own personal Saviour nor are they taught to trust in Him. One of the many reasons is that the Virgin Mary outshines her first born Son. Not only is she enshrined in the hearts of the Roman Catholic, hut is exalted to the highest position possible; being pro claimed as the mother of God and in 1854 it was made a dogma of the Rom an Catholic Church that she was of immaculate conception. Mary is su preme in all their worship, because as mother she is sought as the refuge for sinners and the gateway to heaven, and thousands upon thousands seek her as their Saviour. Therefore, it is our duty as Bible Christians to make known the saving merits of our Lord Jesus Christ. , We praise God for the privilege He has given us of reaching hundreds of Mexicans in our daily visits to the rail road camps. At noon on Sunday we have an outdoor service on the plaza. While holding an outdoor service at one of the Mexican colonies, we gave the invitation and before we finished, one young man arose in the midst of

the other men and said he wanted to accept Christ. Following him, four more made a decision for Christ, i In one of our visits to a railroad camp, while explaining the way of sal vation, a woman said to us, “ I wish you would come often, so that we might become good. We are lost.” We sought to make the way plain to her, but oh! she was so ignorant and benighted that God only, by His Holy- Spirit, can make her understand. Be cause these people are so ignorant and benighted, we need to visit them con stantly and give them the Word, “ line upon line and precept on precept,” trusting the Holy Spirit to do the work. To this end we need a company of intercessors who will he helping us to gether in prayer. Our second Bible conference was held in the lower Auditorium of the Bible Institute, November 9, with a goodly attendance of Mexican Chris tians. ROBERT H. BENDER, Superintendent. Power of the Word At the close of a Bible Study class, a newcomer stood up and asked if she might say a few words, and then with tears in her eyes she thanked the lady who had invited her BIBLE to the class and said WOMEN that she had been in Los Angeles nearly three months, having come with her husband and a crippled brother. She was a stranger, not knowing a single person and feeling desperately lonely. And not only lonely, but worried be cause of the many neighbors—members of Christian Science, Theosophy and New Thought churches, — who had called, constantly bothering her to come to their churches, hut no* Chris tian had called until that week when the invitation had come to the Bible Study class, which she gladly and grate fully accepted, and for which she praised God. With warm feeling and emotion in her voice, she begged the Christians present to call on the new comers as soon as they entered a neigh borhood, for she knew what it meant to be without Christian fellowship. Someone had given her a Pocket Testament and she had been reading it. Then one evening, with a friend, she had dropped into a neighborhood Bible
