Be Ye Beady “Be ye also ready.” In the study of this supremely important truth we are faced with three facts: 1. The Blessed Certainty of His com ing. (Matt. 24:33.) 2. The Solemn Uncertainty of the hour of His coming. (Matt. 24:42.) 3. The Possibility of being caught in the snare of unreadiness. (Matt. 24:44.) How may we be entangled in that snare? (1) By Presuming. (Matt. 24:48.) The unfaithful servant says, “ My Lord delayeth His coming,” and he relegates that day to the unknown future, with the result that he yields to the tempta tion to be untrue to his stewardship. (2) By Sleeping. (Mark 13:36.) And that in spite of the solemn com mand, ‘watch.” To yield to some form of sin is to put oneself in peril of be coming unready. Therefore St. Paul said, “ Let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.” (1 Thess. 5:6.) (3) By Feasting. (Luke 21:34.) Oh, it is not difficult, unless we keep a good watch, td allow material things to be come supreme, to occupy a place, and to have a value in our lives which they were never^htended to have, and thus to becomesj^Bressed and weighed down by them sjflHyto be unable actively to hasten theWHHof His appearing.— Gor don Watt. :.'V• Seven Solemn Truths in 1 Corinthians 1.
