Ask God to liberate them from such Christ-denying heresies. Love them that they may come to the place of seeing their need of Christ. This is not done by argumentation alone. Confidence should be built on mutual love. Indicate that you would like them to read something which would be helpful. Then give them some or thodox material. Santa Clara, Calif. — “I have a very close friend who claims to be an atheist. I f you have any information you can send me so that I could help show him the way of the Lord, I would appreciate it; also any verses of Scripture which would be per tinent. A. The first and most important thing to do is to get the individual to read the Bible, because God reveals Himself to us through His Word. Point out some of the reasons why we know Scripture to be divinely in spired, including both internal and external evidences. Point out the wonderful fulfillment of prophecy in areas concerning our Saviour, as well as the nation of Israel. There are a number of pamphlets and books giv ing practical help on this subject. There is much material available. Dr. R. A. Torrey, our first Dean, has an excellent work on the truthfulness and the reliability of the Bible. Next, start praying and get your friends to do so, too, for this individual. We will be remembering the request here in our prayer group. Where argu mentation will fail, encircle the per son with consistent love and earnest prayer. As to the portions of God’s Word which would be helpful, we be- 19
God has ordained that women shall serve their husbands. This is the di vine order revealed in Scripture. We believe both of them can very well serve Christ together. In fact, they can probably be much more effective as a team of this type. (This is not to discredit or downg r ade those faithful single women who have gone out to the far reaches of the world.) Q. Salem, Ore. — “My Sunday school teacher said that at the cross it was so dark that the people couldn’t see their hands before their eyes. I al ways thought that it was a semi- darkness not a thick darkness as in Exodus 10:22-23. According to John 19:25, it seems that there must have been enough light to give our Sav iour the vinegar.” A. While its true that it was dark at the crucifixion (Matt. 27:45), the Bible doesn’t tell us that it was com pletely black. No doubt it was a semi darkness. Q. Eugene, Ore. — “I have been in a certain liberal church f o r m any years. When we came here, we moved into a neighborhood where there were many other cults, too. I came in contact with them almost every day. We live about a block and a half from their church. We were invited to attend and were given much of their literature to read and study. Their teaching seems so strange to us. What should we do to give them help?” A. As the days of the church age draw to a close, there will be more and more apostasy and defection from the truth. Keep in mind that we must always differentiate between those souls who are misled and the system which has led them into error. We should love them although despis ing the error of doctrine which robs our Lord Jesus of His rightful place. Pray for these who are so mislead.
