WASTE
Wine production, like any other production activity, generates different types of waste, the vast majority of whichisnon-hazardous,anddealtwithonadailybasis. Non-hazardous waste mainly consists of glass, mixed packaging, paper and cardboard, and sludge from the water treatment plant.
from agricultural machinery, malfunctioning or dis- used electronic equipment and other materials.
The winemaking process, on the other hand, is part of a circular economy system. It generates other ma- terials, such as grape stems, skins and seeds (marc), which are recovered and used in other production sectors, particularly for making spirits.
Toxic or hazardous waste, about 0.2% of the total, are from the plant protection products used, lubricants
WHY ARE OUR BOTTLES GREEN? Green glass: • has a lower environmental impact than white glass because it can also be made from glass waste of any colour, unlike white glass; • requires lower temperatures than those needed to produce white glass (which requires about 25% more energy); • shields the wine from UV rays, eliminating the need to protect the bottle with additional materials.
