OUR PARTNERS

We are aware that, in managing its impacts, a business organisation cannot disregard the actions of its sup- pliers. This is why, at Guido Berlucchi, we select partners that operate in line with our principles and work alongside local suppliers, supporting them in making strategic choices to grow together. The supplier area is under the direct control of the CEO, who works with the help of a number of department managers. GRAPES The main raw material we buy is grapes, which, as required by the Franciacorta Production Code, must come from local suppliers who also comply with the Code. For a virtuous approach to the production system that respects the environment and guarantees a fair relationship with suppliers, we have decided to share the Berlucchi Sustainable Viticulture Protocol (PBVS) for the best management of their vineyards. The PBVS de- scribes the recommended, accepted or disallowed defence, agronomic management and fertilisation prac- tices. Organic viticulture certification (certified or in the process of “converting”) or, alternatively, compliance with the PBVS are our basic requirements for admission as grape suppliers. A major commitment for us is to help grape suppliers with sustainable vineyard management, resolving doubts together and providing technical support, in the firm belief that the best results can be achieved by working together. Organic certification or the PBVS is now an integral element in contracts with grape suppliers as they are renewed. In this way, the know-how we have gained from our experience and our collaboration and partic- ipation in numerous research and development projects is also transferred to small producers, generating value for the entire region and improving not only the quality of the wines made here, but also the sustainable management of the entire chain. Being physically close to the partner winegrowers, who are necessarily all in Franciacorta, also allows us to control the actual implementation of the good practices described in the organic viticulture protocol and the PBVS. These controls are conducted by Guido Berlucchi staff who make several visits to our suppliers’ premises during the year. PACKAGING AND OTHER MATERIALS With a focus on circularity and recycling, we select discerning suppliers who have specific process- and product-related certifications. But we seek out as many local suppliers as possible to turn our strategic vision of creating shared value with the territory into reality. In 2021, 60% of our suppliers of packaging and other hospitality materials came from the Lombardy Region, and considering the hospitality sector alone, the percentage rises by 100%, with 96% of suppliers in the prov- ince of Brescia. AGRICULTURAL SERVICES To handle peaks in agricultural activity and, above all, for the grape harvest, involving more than 400 people , we subcontract work to companies specialising in the sector. The organisation carefully selects companies that provide this type of service and at the contract stage we require explicit adherence to our Code of Ethics not only to comply with legislation, but also to promote the well-being of people. When the service is provided, we supervise activities and point out to the supplier’s representative any irreg- ularities relating to working conditions and the well-being of workers. The network of sales representatives We have built up our network of sales representatives over decades: some partnerships have lasted almost 40 years. In Italy, the sales network, consisting of 155 representatives across the country , is organised in four macro-areas of distribution . Internationally, we work with 40 importers, agents and/or representatives in 30 countries . The sales area is run by a manager who reports to one of the directors. The representatives in the sales network are invited to periodic meetings to update them on both the product characteristics and the value system we want to promote and convey.
