Convinced by this great miracle that he did wrong in attempting to destroy the three Hebrews, the king person ally called them forth. He acknowl edged that Jehovah their Lord was the Most High God, and that these young men had a loftier allegiance than that to himself—they were “ser vants of the Most High God.” This indeed is truly a “high calling.” The Babylonians were not credu lous savages, willing to accept any thing a bit out of the ordinary as a miracle. The record states that a most careful examination was made of these three Hebrew young men after they came forth from the furnace. This “scientific investigation” re vealed that their bodies had not been burned, their hair had not been singed, their coats had not been scorched, and most amazing of all, not even the smell of smoke was about their persons. Then Nebu ch adn e zz a r acknowl edged that Hanaiah, Mishael, and Az- ariah were right in obeying their God, even if it meant disobeying him. When one stands true for God, even tually even his opponents will be brought to respect him. The king de creed that no one should speak any thing against the God of these youths. Before the miracle Nebuchad nezzar had asked: “Who is that God that shall deliver you out- of my hands?” He found the answer to his question, for after the miracle he ex claimed: “There is no other God that

THE SUFFERING STING Have you heard about the little girl in Idaho who, on purpose, gets stung be a bee every weekI Her mother takes her to a bee farm where one of these little creatures is placed on her arm and antagonized until it stings. This may sound very mean on the surface, and yet the girl’s physician believes it is what is saving her life. Several years ago she was accidentally stung by a bee. I f it hadn’t been for some special medi cine and oxygen near at hand she would have died. As soon as she was on the way to recovery, doctors started giving Julie small doses of the bee’s poison. This was so that, her body could develop a resistence against it. The dosage was gradually made, larger until now she can stand the real sting from a bee. This painful sting she regularly receives keeps up her resistence. Sometimes the Lord allows us to get stung; He permits things to happen which may hurt on the surface. In fact, in some cases one may get sick or even become handicapped. On a human plane, we don’t understand why certain things happen. We may wonder and perhaps will ask, " If God loves me, why does He let me suffer in this way!” The answer is because He does love us so much. A careful reading of the book of Job clear ly answers this question for, “Whom the Lord loveth He. chasteneth.” It may be that God will use what may appear on the surface to be something which hurts, yet ultimately it will turn out for our own good. This is why He gave His Son to die for us. This reveals exactly how much God cares. He desires all men to come for repentance, for the Lord is not willing that any should perish! * * * Life's greatest tragedy is for a man to lose God but yet never miss Him. * * * When you give someone else a piece of your mind, you lose your own "peace" of mind. * * * The world's troubles stem from its effort to humanize God, deify man and minimize sin. * * * The reason some people don't get ahead is because they spend all of their time try ing to get even. * * * No one who has ever followed Christ has ever gone astray. * * * 34
