SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY DINGLE PROJECT PROFILE

main and mechanical contractors. Each part of the structure offered new challenges from physical space to ensuring the installation was in keeping with the original building. Access had to be maintained to all electrical and mechanical service routes to meet future technology needs. With the project featuring mixed ceiling heights and some double-height roof spaces, this was achieved through a combination of specialised attic access spaces and hidden service routes. Alan Freeman, co-founder of Freeman Electrical Services, says, “Sacred Heart University is our largest project to date, and we are very proud of all involved who worked and co-operated above and beyond to ensure this project leaves a lasting impression on anyone who attends a course or visits it. “We believe that we met all our client’s requirements and have left a modern, low maintenance and energy-efficient building for decades to come. “We supplied and installed a bespoke lighting system tailored to the client’s requirements internally and externally and, while functional, it also leaves you with a bit of wow factor. This project is a showcase of how to integrate modern electrical systems into a 19th century building, enhancing rather than

detracting from its original appearance.” Freeman Electrical Services was established in 2013 by brothers Alan and Conor Freeman, with Daire Freeman joining as a third director in 2016. Experienced in electrical contracting, site supervision and project management, the team handles every project with professionalism, precision and commitment to customer satisfaction. Gary Delaney, executive director and company secretary at Sacred Heart University, says, “The quality, design, neatness and integrity of the electrical installation have been commended by all of those involved in this project - it is textbook perfection. “Alan, Conor and Daire worked closely with our design team to ensure that every possible permutation in terms of synchronising the electrical and mechanical installations was presented to us. This included a seamless integration of our building management systems, and our extensive IT network and infrastructure. Future proofing was always at the fore. “The most obvious day-to-day impact of Freeman’s involvement must be in respect of the lighting, and the design and commissioning of same. It is beyond fit for purpose, is highly cost-efficient and is wonderfully intuitive and easy to manage.”
