Figure D-2: Existing signage structure within the Stitch project limits.
Accommodating signage and ventilation requirements may require additional vertical clearance above what had been identified in the previous technical analysis. An evaluation of signing and ventilation requirements is needed to identify locations where additional clearance can be accommodated to incorporate these items. In some locations the bridge deck structure may need to be raised above the existing surface street elevations in order to achieve sufficient clearance over the Downtown Connector travel lanes. Increasing the cap height over the roadway to provide adequate vertical clearances should only have nominal cost implications. A more significant impact to raising the structure height may be the inability to create a seamless transition from the amenities on the cap to the existing surface streets and surrounding areas. A raised cap reduces access opportunities and if not implemented thoughtfully, may create a barrier between the communities the project is intended to bring together.
