Two analyses were performed, per direction, to evaluate the number of cut-through trips. The first analysis included only pass-through origin and destinations zones specific to long-range highway-based trips. These zones include:
I-75 north of the split, I-85 north of the split, I-85 HOV, GA 400, I-75/I-85 south of I-25, I-25 east of I-75/I-85, and I-25 west of I-75/I-85
The second analysis included the same origin and destinations zones as well as a middle filter that is set on the northbound and southbound Downtown Connector lanes within the study area. The difference in volumes from the first analysis to the second indicates how many trips divert from the highway network, missing the middle filter, to use local streets before entering the highway network again to complete the trip. The table below shows the rate of cut-through highway trips in the northbound and southbound directions: 9.0% and 11.7%, respectively.
