more particularly, the Division of Higher Education, to discuss the matter of getting State accreditation for Biola. I had been told that if we could get State accreditation, it would be easier to get into WASC. discovered the opposite situation at the State Department. They said if we could get into WASC, it would be easier to get State accreditation, which was evidently a run- around and neither one was overly anxious to give us the accreditation we desired. Although the State was not an accrediting agency, they gave us recognition, but not accreditation. We incorporated all of their requirements over a period of years and then we went back to the Western College Association with our formal application. This took place in 1951. In the meantime, while we were discussing this idea, we let them know that we were planning to move the campus onto a 50-acre site somewhere in southern California, but that we had not selected the site as yet.
